📖 MY FIRST LOVER ( CHAPTER 17 )
The school hallway was still loud and active.
Students moved in different directions, voices mixing together.
But for Amara, everything felt distant.
Like she was inside her own quiet world.
She walked slowly, replaying every moment in her mind.
Daniel’s voice… Vanessa’s appearance… the tension she felt but couldn’t explain.
“Friend…” she whispered softly to herself.
And suddenly, that word felt heavier than before.
Daniel walked beside Vanessa in silence.
She didn’t speak immediately.
They kept walking until they were away from the crowd.
Then she stopped and turned to him.
“Who is she, really?” Vanessa asked again, her tone more serious now.
Daniel sighed quietly.
“I already told you… we just met.”
Vanessa looked at him closely, studying his face.
“You don’t act like someone who ‘just met’ her,” she said.
Daniel paused.
Because deep down, he knew she wasn’t entirely wrong.
And that thought unsettled him.
At school, Linda noticed Amara’s quiet mood.
“You’re not yourself today,” she said gently.
Amara gave a small forced smile.
“It’s nothing serious.”
But Linda wasn’t convinced.
“Does it have something to do with that boy?” she asked.
Amara stopped for a second.
And that silence answered the question.
After school, Amara walked home slowly.
Her thoughts still heavy.
Halfway, she stopped suddenly.
Daniel was there.
Waiting for her. Alone.
“Hey,” he said softly.
Amara looked around quickly.
“You shouldn’t be here,” she replied.
“I know,” Daniel said calmly.
“But I needed to talk to you.”
A short silence followed.
Then he spoke again.
“Vanessa… she’s not just a friend the way she thinks she is.”
Amara frowned slightly.
“I don’t understand.”
Daniel looked at her directly.
“She likes me. But I’ve never told her I feel the same.”
Those words changed everything in that moment.
From a distance, Vanessa stood behind a corner.
She had followed Daniel.
And she heard everything.
Her expression stayed calm at first.
But inside, something shifted.
Daniel turned back to Amara.
“I don’t want confusion between us,” he said quietly.
Amara’s voice came low.
“We just met yesterday…”
“I know,” he replied.
“But it doesn’t feel like that.”
Before she could respond
A voice interrupted them.
“Interesting.”
Vanessa stepped forward.
Calm. Controlled. Too calm.
“I see everything now,” she said.
Silence fell between all three of them.
And in that moment…
It no longer felt like a normal conversation.
It felt like the beginning of something serious.
