They will not spend crazy money” – Fabrizio Romano quashes Al-Nassr links with Real Madrid star

Real Madrid will resume their transfer business next week, and one player whose future could be defined at this time is Rodrygo Goes. The 24-year-old has barely been counted on during the Club World Cup, and this has led to speculation that his time at the Santiago Bernabeu will be coming to an end.

Xabi Alonso’s decision to count on Arda Guler, coupled with the signing of Franco Mastantuono, means that Rodrygo will face more competition for his place in the Real Madrid starting line-up. And given that he struggled a lot during the second half of the 2024-25 domestic season, it’s been hinted that he could move on.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has given an update on the situation with Rodrygo and Arsenal, who are very interested in signing him. He also confirmed that Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr are not likely to sign the Real Madrid man this summer.

“Arsenal see Rodrygo as a fantastic player, but at the moment, their interest is in its early stages. There have yet to be any club-to-club negotiations, and it will not be until the end of the Club World Cup before there is any clarity.

“In recent days, there has been reports of Al-Nassr being interested or being in talks for Rodrygo. But right now, they are not in talks to sign Rodrygo, or Gabriel Martinelli. They will not spend crazy money this summer.”

Real Madrid are reported to be open to selling Rodrygo this summer, which could be a surprise given how good he has been on the whole during his time at the club. But given that he has no chance of playing in his preferred left wing position, where he is generally more effective, it does make sense for now to be the time for him to leave.

Marcus Rashford's fresh Man Utd humiliation as brutal Ruben Amorim decision confirmed

Marcus Rashford hasn't returned to pre-season training with Manchester United after being granted permission to explore a transfer, but if he does return he'll be wearing a new shirt number

Manchester United have confirmed that new signing Matheus Cunha has taken Marcus Rashford's No.10 shirt. Brazilian forward Cunha joined the Red Devils from Wolves in a £62.5million transfer deal on June 1.

The 26-year-old met up with his new team-mates for the first time on Monday, as United began pre-season training. Cunha was seen wearing the No.10 on his training gear as he starts life under Ruben Amorim.

Reports emerged last week claiming that Rashford would be losing the number which he's worn since 2018. It was also revealed how United have allowed the England international to delay his return to training alongside four team-mates.

Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia and Alejandro Garnacho have all been given additional time to explore a move away before the summer transfer window closes on September 1. Barcelona are the favourites to sign Rashford, who the Red Devils have slapped a £40m price tag on - the same amount which Aston Villa passed up on following his loan spell.

Barca would prefer a loan deal, however, as they're struggling to register players with La Liga amid their well-documented financial woes. The Spanish champions missed out on the £58m signing of Nico Williams, as they couldn't guarantee the Athletic Bilbao winger that they'd be able to register him.

Liverpool forward Luis Diaz is also said to be keen on joining Barcelona and boss Hansi Flick has described both him and Rashford as 'fantastic players'. Last month, Rashford's brother and agent, Dwaine Maynard, was spotted meeting Barca sporting director Deco for talks.

It's been suggested that the United wantaway would be willing to take a significant pay cut on his £325,000-a-week salary to join Flick's domestic treble winners. Recently, Rashford was asked by Spanish YouTube channel XBuyer whether he'd like to play alongside Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal in the future.

Which club should sign Marcus Rashford? Let us know your pick in the comments section.

"Yeah, sure," he replied. "Everybody in the world wants to play with the best. So hopefully, we'll see."

Rashford also compared himself to ex-Barca striker Thierry Henry, adding: "I see myself reflected in Henry. He's comfortable playing on the left and also in the middle. He's a free player.

"As I've developed, the number 9 position has become more comfortable, more natural. Things like playing with my back to goal are becoming easier for me. You're always in front of goal and always dangerous."

Mbeumo frustrated by slow MU progress as Arsenal deal boosts Brentford position

Bryan Mbeumo is growing increasingly frustrated as Manchester United weigh up a third bid for the Brentford forward.

Mbeumo has made clear he wants to move to Old Trafford but United are yet agree a deal with Brentford, who want more than the £62.5m they paid for Matheus Cunha earlier this summer.

United have made two failed offers for the 25-year-old and both Mbeumo and Brentford have become frustrated with the slow progress of the deal.

Brentford holding firm over their asking price and are open to other offers for Mbeumo as United deliberate a third bid.

Brentford are looking for a fee in excess of £63m and have been encouraged by the fees touted for Noni Madueke and Anthony Elanga in recent weeks, believing their valuation is not only fair but perhaps even lower than market value.

Chelsea value Arsenal target Madueke at more than £50m and Newcastle have agreed a £55m fee with Nottingham Forest to sign Elanga.

Mbeumo, who scored 20 Premier League goals last season, is a United fan and has also been encouraged by the wage package on offer were he to move to Old Trafford.Brentford director of football Phil Giles said last week he could envisage Mbeumo staying at the club next season and the forward is due back for the start of pre-season next Monday.

Giles is known to be a shrewd negotiator and Brentford hold the option to extend Mbeumo’s contract until the end of the 2026-27 season, so are in a strong bargaining position and will not be forced to lower their valuation.

Mbeumo is still expected to leave Brentford and join captain Christian Norgaard and long-standing head coach Thomas Frank in moving on this summer.

Brentford, though, will not be held to ransom over their prized asset and would be comfortable with keeping hold of Mbeumo if their asking price is not met.

Barcelona convinced of Luis Diaz move due to handshake agreement with Liverpool
20 mins ago / autty
Barcelona have shifted their attentions to from Nico Williams to Luis Diaz, after the former signed a contract renewal with Athletic Club last week. Despite one of the reasons for that change being given as the cost, Barcelona are convinced they can get a deal done for the Colombian winger.

The 28-year-old has been non-committal on his future in public over recent weeks, following months of reports that Diaz is keen to move to Barcelona. Meanwhile Barcelona are prioritising a move for a left-sided forward this summer. The most significant development in recent weeks is that Diaz has indicated to Bayern Munich that he would be willing to move to the Allianz Arena, but Barcelona expect Diaz to express a desire to leave when the time is right.

So far Liverpool have rejected approaches from both Barcelona and Bayern, explaining that he is not for sale this summer. Yet there has been a consistent vein of reporting that Diaz would be available for €80-85m. Cadena SER report that this is due to a gentleman’s agreement between Liverpool and Diaz that if an offer of €80m arrives, then he will be allowed to leave. Barcelona are aware of this, and are hoping to bring that price down.

On Monday it was reported that Diaz would not make any demands from Barcelona over being registered, the sticking point in negotiations for Williams last week. However Diario AS say that Diaz’s agent will not request a release clause, but does want a significant financial penalty included in his contract should he not be registered.

If Diaz is indeed interested in a move to Bayern too, then the Blaugrana face an uphill task to sign him. Bayern will have more spending power than Barcelona, and Liverpool would rather sell to the German side. In addition, Bayern will be desperate to shift the narrative this summer, after losing out on Florian Wirtz, and losing Jamal Musiala to a long-term injury.

Barcelona announce new two-year deal for veteran

Barcelona have confirmed that Wojciech Szczesny will be remaining at the club for the time being, after his contract expired last week. With the Blaugrana back in training this week, Hansi Flick will no doubt have been keen to ensure the 35-year-old is present for the start of the season.

The veteran goalkeeper came out of retirement less than two months into his new life last season, after Barcelona sought out an experienced goalkeeper last season in the aftermath of Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s serious knee injury in September. Szczesny would spend three months on the bench, before winning a starting spot in January, and finishing the season with a Spanish Supercup, Copa del Rey and La Liga titles.

Barcelona announced on Monday that Szczesny had been handed a new two-year deal by the club, keeping him in action until 2027, when Szczesny will be 37. Most foresee a back-up role for him going forward, with manager Hansi Flick speaking warmly of his character and his impact on the dressing room during the season. He has also been a hit with the fanbase, for his relaxed attitude and sense of humour.

With the confirmation of Szczesny’s continuity, Barcelona now have four senior goalkeepers on their books for next season as things stand. Szczesny is widely expected to play a back-up role for Joan Garcia, after the Blaugrana activated his release clause this summer. The unknown is what the future holds for captain ter Stegen, whom Barcelona would like to move on, but the player seems keen to stay.

The fourth is Inaki Pena, who until January was their starter. He is expected to leave on a free despite having a year left on his deal. Valencia and Celta Vigo showed interest in Pena, but it now looks as if he may move abroad.

Luis Diaz has once again become the key focus at Barcelona following the club’s failed pursuit of Nico Williams.

The Liverpool superstar was one of Barça’s top attacking targets this summer, and with Nico no longer an option, the club are once again eyeing a move for the attacker.

Recent reports have indicated that Diaz is no longer up for grabs, with Liverpool not too keen on offloading an attacker, especially after the demise of Diogo Jota.

Luis Diaz wants Barcelona move
However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Luis Diaz remains as determined as ever in his bid to join Barcelona this summer.

The player’s agent has contacted Barcelona confirming the club that Diaz will not demand any clause that would require the club to register him immediately.

Even if Barça fail to register him, Diaz won’t demand to leave the club as a free agent. This was one of the sticking points in the Nico deal, but it won’t be a problem for Diaz.

Diaz’s agent has also informed Barcelona that Liverpool are in desperate need of fresh sales due to the costs incurred by the club through its summer signings, including Florian Wirtz.

The sale of Diaz, therefore, could prove to be critical in their bid to recoup the amount invested in the German international.

This could play into the hands of Barcelona, who never really ruled out Diaz in anticipation of the Nico deal not working out.

The Colombian international, in fact, was always the preferred choice for sporting director Deco, which is why Barcelona never closed his file.

In the final days of the Nico saga, Diaz’s agent even sent Barcelona signals of reproach. And now, with the Nico deal dead in the water, it will be interesting to see if the Catalans can indeed make a move for the Colombian.

Arsenal plot striker transfer breakthrough as crunch Gyokeres D-day beckons

Sporting CP are expecting Arsenal target Viktor Gyokeres to report for pre-season training next week

Arsenal believe next week could hold the key to their seemingly never-ending striker hunt. Portuguese champions Sporting CP are expecting wantaway striker Viktor Gyokeres to report for pre-season training but the Swede is threatening to go on strike in order to facilitate his dream switch to north London.

Gyokeres and his agent Hasan Cetinkaya are currently at war with Sporting president Frederico Varandas, who has been accused of ripping up a gentleman's agreement that would enable the 27-year-old frontman to depart for £60million.

However, Varandas has made it clear Sporting won't sell their star man for below what they consider to be fair market value.

Arsenal have persistently flirted with moves for both Gyokeres and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko this summer but if the ex-Coventry City hitman does not show up for training in Lisbon, there is optimism Sporting may crack and eventually, soften their stance.

Gyokeres is planning to hold face-to-face talks with Varandas to resolve the situation upon return to Portugal.

The crux of Sporting's international stars are due back on Monday but Gyokeres has now been given permission to return on Friday, the day before the Portuguese champions head to the Algarve for a training camp.

Gunners sporting director Andrea Berta has been actively pushing for the Sweden international since arriving at the club while Mikel Arteta has been courting Sesko for the best part of 18 months.

However, should Sporting slash their asking price - it would significantly strengthen Arsenal's hand to land either player.

Even if the Gunners did not want to push the button on Gyokeres, there is a sense they could use Sporting's reduced demands as leverage in negotiations with Leipzig for Sesko, which is why they've been so determined to play the long game.

Gyokeres has been stepping up his fitness this week alongside personal trainer Giannis Katsigiannis while on holiday in Mykonos.

Meanwhile, Sesko has also been relaxing on the Greek island and remarkably, the two Arsenal striker targets have even shared the same mobile barber in the past 10 days.

Arsenal sources deny they have made an offer for either player to date, though Berta has held initial dialogue with representatives of both clubs.

Last month, the Italian chief is understood to have met with Sporting director Bernardo Palmeiro in Menorca where informal discussions took place and there have also been direct conversations with Leipzig's Marcel Schafer over Sesko.

Arsenal appear to have a clear run at both forwards as Gyokeres has already intimated to Manchester United that he would favour a switch to the Emirates despite his respect for former boss Ruben Amorim.

Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins, who was the subject of a rejected approach in January, and Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike are both also admired.

While a centre-forward is considered a top priority, the Gunners are also striving to strengthen their wide and attacking midfield options with Eberechi Eze, Noni Madueke all among the key names of growing interest.

Personal terms are now in place with Madueke following several rounds of discussions with the Chelsea winger's camp and Arsenal are now expected to approach the Blues to formally discuss a potential transfer.

Talks had been progressing in the US, where both teams had been taking part in the Club World Cup and despite Bayern Munich also being interested, the 20-year-old has agreed a long-term deal at Stamford Bridge.

Dortmund confirmed the transfer had been agreed in Florida on Thursday evening.

The west London club have been looking to strengthen the wide areas following the decision not to take up the option to sign Jadon Sancho permanently.

The England U21 international contributed 12 goals and five assists in 48 games in all competitions for Dortmund last season
