*EDO STATE CELEBRATES WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY WITH "ONE MILLION TREES FOR PEACE" INITIATIVE*
Benin city- The Edo State Government, in collaboration with the Africa Initiative for Peace, has launched the "One Million Trees for Peace" project in commemoration of World Environment Day. The event, held in Ehor, Uhunmwonde Local Government Area, aimed to promote environmental sustainability and peace.
The theme of this years world Environment day "Eliminating Plastic Pollution," highlighted the importance of protecting the environment. Representing Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo, Chief of Staff Mallam Gani Audu expressed gratitude to the Africa Initiative for Peace project, led by Mrs. Bernadette Strebel, and reassured the group of the state government's support for the project's success.
Edo State Forestry Commission Chairman, Hon. Valentine Owamagbe Asuen, welcomed dignitaries to the grand breaking ceremony, marking the beginning of the year's tree planting campaign. Other notable attendees included Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Oshiomole, and the representative of the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty Oba Ewuare II, Chief Emma Iyase the Okao of Ehor and Ologbo Dukedoms.
The highlight of the event was the planting of trees by the dignitaries, including Hon. Gani Audu, Hon. Valentine Owamagbe Asuen, Hon. Cyril Oshiomole, and Chief Emma Iyase . The group also visited the Clara Oshiomole Forest Reserves.
This initiative is part of the state government's efforts to promote environmental sustainability and conservation. The Edo State Forestry Commission has been working tirelessly to protect and preserve the state's forest resources, and this project is a significant step towards achieving that goal.
