Sick birds don’t speak, but they show warning signs. As a smart farmer, you must observe daily to catch disease before it spreads.

🔍 Look out for these early signs:
✅ Unusual quietness or isolation
✅ Reduced feeding or water intake
✅ Ruffled feathers or drooping wings
✅ Laboured or noisy breathing
✅ Pale combs or wattles
✅ Diarrhea or blood in droppings
✅ Sudden drop in egg production
✅ Weakness or trembling

✔ Observe your birds morning and evening

Water is the most essential nutrient for poultry. It affects growth, digestion, egg production, temperature control, and even immunity.

Feed withdrawal or loss of appetite in poultry is a serious red flag! When birds stop eating, their growth, egg production, and general health suffer.

Here are common reasons why birds withdraw from feed:

1️⃣ Disease or Infection – Illnesses like Coccidiosis, Newcastle, or respiratory infections reduce appetite. Look out for other symptoms like weakness or discharge.

2️⃣ Poor Quality Feed – Moldy, sour, or expired feed will be rejected by birds. Always check your feed before giving it.

3️⃣ Dirty or Contaminated Water – If water is not clean, birds may not drink or eat, leading to dehydration and feed refusal.

4️⃣ Sudden Change in Feed – Changing feed brands or type without gradual transition can cause rejection.

5️⃣ Overcrowding or Heat Stress – Too many birds in one space or hot weather can reduce feed intake. Birds eat less when they’re stressed or uncomfortable.

6️⃣ Poor Lighting – Chickens need adequate light to stay active and feed. Dim or no light can affect their feeding habits.

🚨 COCCI DISEASE IN POULTRY: KNOW IT, PREVENT IT, TREAT IT! 🚨

Coccidiosis (commonly called Cocci) is a deadly disease that affects chickens, especially young birds. It is caused by tiny parasites (Eimeria) that attack the gut, leading to poor growth, bloody droppings, and even death if not managed quickly.

👀 SIGNS TO WATCH OUT FOR:

Bloody or watery droppings

Lethargy and weakness

Poor appetite

Ruffled feathers

Weight loss

🛑 PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE! ✅ Keep your poultry house clean and dry
✅ Avoid overcrowding
✅ Use medicated starter feed (with coccidiostat) for chicks
✅ Practice good biosecurity—limit visitors and foot traffic
✅ Provide clean water always

💊 TREATMENT: Once you notice signs, act fast! Use recommended anti-coccidial drugs such as Amprolium, Sulfa drugs, or Diclazuril (as prescribed). Treatment should be combined with supportive care—like multivitamins—to help birds recover.

How to Move Birds from Brooder to Pen Without Stress 🐔

Are your chicks getting bigger and your brooder getting tighter? It’s time to move them—but do it the right way!

Here are simple tips to move your birds safely:

✅ Move at 3–4 weeks, when they’re fully feathered
✅ Clean and prepare the grow-out pen 2–3 days ahead
✅ Move during cool hours – early morning or late evening
✅ Use crates but don’t overcrowd them
✅ Add glucose or electrolytes to reduce stress
✅ Watch them settle in—make sure they find feed and water
✅ Record the move date to help track growth and health

Check the litter well... When your litter is like this while in the brooder with less ventilation, ammonia will build up.

They will begin to have internal heat and probably dizziness. That is why you will see them lay on the floor, facing towards fresh breeze source.

There will be a change in their droppings.

Remedy..

*change their litter
*allow more breeze
* increase their space
* give them zobo drink to relieve stress
*give bitterleaf and scent leaf juice as antibiotics for 3 days...

Buy from reputable hatcheries like Chi, Agrited, Zartec, etc.

Pick up chicks early in the day and transport quickly to avoid stress.

Have your brooder warm and ready (32–35°C) before arrival.
