YENAGOA – The Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Francis Idu has con­firmed the arrest of Six suspects allegedly involved in the August killing of a Police Constable, Oboh Goodluck, by suspected cultists along the OMPADEC area of Am­arata community in Yenagoa, the State capital.

According to CP Idu, the key suspects, who is identified to have been involved in multiple cases of murder and wanted by the Police, is still on the run and will soon be apprehended.

The Police Commissioner who made this known during the Service of Songs parade and the Lying in State for the deceased Constable Oboh Goodluck, said the police will ensure that the key suspects and those involved in the killing area brought to book.

He warned that those involved in acts of violent attacks against the Police should be warned, and the police authorities will use all tools in its arsenal to ensure that they are brought to justice.

He assured the family of the de­ceased Police constable that that attacked a police man will face dire consequences and assured the men of the ranks and file that the top echelon of the Nigerian Police Force will have their backs irrespective of any circumstances.

According to him, ” The de­ceased Constable acted within the law to confront and defend the people from arm against sev­en hoodlums. Goodluck Oboh gave his life to save the Bayelsa citizen­ry. If he had succeeded, he would have beaten his chest that he is a peace keeper.”

The Police Commissioner announced that a formal request will be sent to the State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, to make the site of his killing a monument for him to be remembered.

The representative of the Aya­dei/Oboh family, Comrade Kwok­wo Robert, while appreciating the authorities of the Nigerian Police for the assistance in the final buri­al rites of the deceased Constable, called for Justice in the killing of their son.

According to him, ” The relief we pray for ,as a family, is justice. Those responsible for the killing should also pay the supreme price.”

…Say His Actions Threaten Peace and Security in the Niger Delta

Yenagoa – The leadership of the Third Phase of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) has petitioned the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, urging him to intervene and call Mr. Elaye Slaboh to order over what they described as “a grave threat to peace and security in the Niger Delta region.”

In a strongly worded petition dated 29th September 2025, and addressed to the Governor’s office in Yenagoa, the PAP leaders accused Slaboh, who hails from Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, of parading himself as the National Chairman of the Third Phase PAP despite the expiration of his tenure on September 16, 2025.

According to the petition, Mr. Slaboh’s refusal to relinquish office, coupled with his continued misrepresentation, risks igniting confrontation and crisis among the PAP Phase 3 leadership and delegates, thereby undermining the fragile peace in Bayelsa State and the Niger Delta at large.

The petitioners, led by Comrades Ben Tray and Kelvin Itiye, recalled that the PAP Phase 3 leadership has followed a defined succession process since its inception. They listed past leaders as:

Mr. Julius Joseph (2012–2019)

Mr. Godsgift Igoli (a.k.a. Lacto Marine, 2019–2021)

Mr. Alale Tonye Bobo (a.k.a. Sir T, 2021–2023)

Mr. Elaye Slaboh (2023–2025)

The leaders revealed that a “free, fair and transparent election” was conducted on September 10, 2025, which produced Mr. Godstime Ogidigba as the new National Chairman. The new executive was formally inaugurated on September 16, 2025.

“By refusing to hand over, Mr. Slaboh is toying with the peace and stability of the Niger Delta region. His desperate bid to unlawfully extend his tenure is similar to the attempt made by his predecessor, Mr. Alale Tonye Bobo, which had to be resisted with the intervention of security agencies,” the petition stated.

The group further recommended that security agencies invite Mr. Elaye Slaboh for questioning, given his history of attempting to hold on to power in defiance of due process.

While calling on Governor Diri to urgently intervene, the Phase 3 PAP leadership also copied their petition to the Inspector-General of Police at Force Headquarters, Abuja, stressing the need for swift security action to avert an avoidable crisis.

The petitioners expressed confidence in the Governor’s “unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and stability in Bayelsa State” and urged him to use his good offices to prevent any escalation.

“We appeal for your intervention to bring perpetrators to justice and ensure compliance with the rule of law. The peace of the Niger Delta should not be jeopardized by one man’s ambition,” the petition read in part.

As tension simmers, observers say the Governor’s prompt response will go a long way in sustaining the prevailing peace in Bayelsa and across the wider Niger Delta.
