GOV ENO MUST BE GOVERNOR OF AKWA IBOM STATE FOR 8 YEARS - Frank Archibong.

Commissioner in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Frank Archibong, has stated that Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State must be governor for 8 years and produce a successor in 2031 who will succeed him.

Addressing party faithfuls at the Ward Center after a successful PDP Councillorship Primary, Archibong posited that Governor Eno has performed creditably and must serve the state for 8 years like his predecessors.

"Pastor Umo Eno must be governor of Akwa Ibom State for 8 years. At the end of his tenure, he will also choose his own successor. So this is a preparation towards that time. Let us continue to be together. Let us continue to be as organized as we are.

The Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Boss, expressed gratitude to the Governor for the modalities used in selecting candidates of the party both at the local government and Ward levels respectively, noting that the exercise has recorded zero violence and death in the history of party primaries.

He therefore solicited more support for Governor Eno, urging the people to reciprocate his kind gesture.

"You can see, no hair has fallen from anybody's head. How did that happened? That happened because of Pastor Umo Bassey Eno. Because when the righteous is on the throne, the people rejoice.

"Today, we are rejoicing. Let us continue to show him that support and love. Let us reciprocate what he has done for us today. It is a no Victor no vanquish situation. Central 2 is together and together we will be in Jesus name.

Archibong, who was accompanied with his wife, Dr. Bright Archibong, thanked the people of Ward 2 Central for coming out enmasse to vote for one of their own, Mrs. Roseline Sylvanus, maintaining that she is elected to competent the Chairman of Council and the ARISE Agenda of Pastor Umo Bassey Eno.

"Today, you have witness yet another epoch making event. Today, as Central 2, the most organized Ward, the vote basket of the local government. The turned out today has proven that this Ward has the highest votes as far as the local government is concerned.

"And today, we unanimously and conscientiously has elected Roseline to be our Councillor to complement the Local Government Chairman and complement the Arise Agenda of Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, the one we will support from now till 2031.

"We have elected her. We have not elected her to be insulted by anybody. We have not elected her to be ATM machine to anybody. We have elected her to be the Councillor of this Ward representing us well at the local government. And we must continually show her support till the end of her tenure.

Archibong, also thanked the Ward Leader, Elder Nse Atang, the Senatorial Leader, Chief Nduese Essien, urging the people to rally around him and pray God to console him over the lost of his wife.

Court sacks Senator Bassey Albert for defecting to YPP
..declares seat vacant, fines embattled Senator N5Million
..orders PDP to conduct bye-election in A'Ibom North-East Senatorial District

The Federal High Court in Abuja has sacked Senator Bassey Albert Akpan from the Senate for defecting to the Young Progressives Party, YPP.

The court has also declared his seat vacant and has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct a bye-election to fill the vacant seat.

The Judge, Hon. Justice Fadima Murtala Aminu in a suit no FHC/ABJ/CS/1249/2022 between the plaintiff being the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the defendants including, Senator Bassey Albert, President of the Senate and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, dated Friday 20th January, 2023, ruled that the embattled Senator who was sponsored to the office of a Senator by the plaintiff, the PDP is no longer qualified to retain his seat in the Senate having resigned his membership of the PDP before the expiration of the period for which he was elected to represent the people of Akwa Ibom North- East Senatorial District.

Relying on section 65(2)[B] of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 the court declared Bassey Albert's seat vacant.

The Court has ordered INEC to conduct a bye-election within 14days of the ruling dated 20th January to fill the vacant seat occasioned by his sack.

Also, the Judge ordered Senator Bassey to “refund to the Senate of the National Assembly all monies, allowances, or other financial and material benefits paid, given or yielded to him after July 15, 2022.

The court ruling reads in parts; “This Honourable Court hereby grants an order of injunction restraining the 1st defendant from claiming to be parading himself as Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District(otherwise known as Uyo Senatorial District) in the Senate”.

“The Ist defendant is to pay N5,000,000as cost of this suit to the plaintiff"(Five Million Naira)”.
