Delta Man Dies in Crash Hours After Escaping Kidnappers

Tragedy struck in Delta State as a man identified simply as Ability lost his life in a motorcycle accident, just hours after narrowly escaping a kidnap attempt at his residence.

The heartbreaking development was disclosed by human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, who shared the news via his Instagram page on Tuesday, accompanied by a video showing the deceased in a casket.

According to Gwamnishu, Ability had been the target of an attempted abduction by armed men, but was fortunately rescued by his alert gateman. Sadly, less than 24 hours after the incident, he died while on his way to visit his wife.

“This morning we were in his house, Ability gave me Four Cousin and appreciated me for the work I do,” Gwamnishu wrote. “This evening, he told them to carry him with motorcycle to visit his wife and had an accident that took his life.”

Clearly shaken by the sudden turn of events, he added, “Which kind life be this? See strong Ability for inside casket. This is the worst news.”

The incident has drawn widespread reactions online, with many expressing shock and sorrow over the tragic sequence of events—an escape from death followed almost immediately by another fatal encounter.

Gwamnishu’s post was flooded with condolence messages as friends and sympathisers mourned a man whose life was cut short in a cruel twist of fate.

Charly Boy Dismisses Bus Stop Renaming as Petty, Urges Focus on 2027 Elections

Veteran Nigerian musician and activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has downplayed the recent renaming of the “Charly Boy Bus Stop” in Gbagada, Lagos, describing the move as petty and a distraction from the pressing issues facing the nation.

Appearing on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Tuesday, the outspoken entertainer urged Nigerians to focus their energy on the upcoming 2027 general elections, rather than symbolic changes with no real impact on national progress.

“My sister, if you ask me nah who I go ask? I don’t know why they do the things they do, because it seems to be a little petty. A lot more petty because those are not the things we should be talking about right now,” Charly Boy said.

“Whether you name it Charly Boy or Olamide Baddo, or whatever, it’s neither here nor there. What our priority should be is the 2027 election. Will our vote count?” he asked.

The activist revealed that the original naming of the bus stop was in recognition of his contributions to the Gbagada community, where he once lived.

“Once upon a time, I lived around the bus stop, and that was why people who were in Gbagada at that time felt it was just the right thing to name a bus stop after me. Honestly, I contributed to that community — both the military pensioner, the Okada riders, young persons, and everybody. I gave scholarships to young people,” he recalled.

Charly Boy also noted that the naming occurred around 1991–1992, following the release of one of his hit songs in 1990.

The Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) recently renamed the landmark after indigenous rapper and music executive, Olamide Adedeji, popularly known as ‘Baddo’. The decision has sparked conversations online, with many debating the cultural and political undertones of the change.

Nonetheless, Charly Boy maintains that such symbolic acts are trivial in the face of the country’s larger political challenges.

We are living in a time when wickedness seems to have become the norm. It's an era where many are consumed by a desperate curiosity to get rich quickly.

But let it be known: the belief that human parts can bring wealth is a dangerous lie. Until those who walk this dark path realize that it's a fruitless and deadly pursuit, innocent lives will continue to be lost in vain.

Only honest, legitimate efforts will be blessed by the Almighty.

#2025: Ooni Elevates Cultural Identity with Drum, , and Donations

Thousands of culture lovers, scholars, and traditionalists gathered in Ile-Ife on Thursday for the 2025 Ayangalu Drum Festival, where the of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, reaffirmed the spiritual and cultural legacy of the Yoruba people through symbolic drumming for peace, unity, and continuity.

Held at the courtyard of the Palace of Ile Oodua, the vibrant celebration drew dignitaries including professors from the Departments of Linguistics and Music at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), 250 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), OAU students, and cultural delegations from institutions across the South-West.

To support indigenous arts and creativity, the Ooni awarded a total of N4.95 million to winners of the drumming competition and cultural performers. The first-place winner received N1 million, while the second and third positions earned N750,000 and N500,000 respectively. In addition, N2 million was presented to the Moremi Ensemble, ace drummer Akande Onilu received N500,000, and two other drummers got N100,000 each.

Speaking to journalists, the Ooni highlighted the sacred role of drumming in Yoruba tradition and cosmology.

“We believe the drum holds great significance in our daily lives. In the olden days, drums were used for virtually everything—be it good news or times of war, the drum was the medium of communication,” he said.

“The drum is deeply symbolic to us, the Yoruba people. Ayangalu, the originator of the drum, is venerated among the 201 deities of Ile-Ife and shares a spiritual link with Orunmila. He began his journey in Atiba here in Ile-Ife, and although some of his descendants later migrated to Oyo and Nupe lands, many still reside in Ife. Every year, we honour his legacy through this festival.

“To us, Ayangalu is synonymous with the drum. I drum today for peace, for joy, and for abundant blessings. Since childhood, I have found fulfilment in promoting and preserving this sacred tradition.”

Olori Ronke Ogunwusi also praised the Ooni for his unwavering support—both morally and financially—for the festival and broader cultural revival efforts. She acknowledged the contributions of Seamans, university professors, NYSC members, students, traditional chiefs, and other guests.

“We have gathered here to celebrate our rich cultural heritage. Ayangalu represents excellence in creativity, and I urge every Yoruba person to value their roots and continue learning from one another. As the competition captivates us, let it also remind us to uphold unity and the enduring power of our tradition," she said.
