Nigeria Rejects U.S. Request to Host Venezuelan Deportees — Minister Cites Overpopulation.

Nigeria will not succumb to pressure from the Trump administration to accept deported Venezuelans or third-country prisoners from the United States, Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar has declared.

Speaking in an interview, Tuggar strongly opposed the U.S. request, even quoting 1990s American rap group Public Enemy to drive home his point.

"In the words of the famous US rap group Public Enemy… you'll remember a line from Flava Flav, a member of the group, who said: 'Flava Flav has problems of his own. I can't do nothin' for you, man,'" the minister said.
Highlighting Nigeria’s population burden, he added, “We already have over 230 million people. It would be unfair for Nigeria to accept 300 Venezuelan deportees.”

Tuggar suggested the recent U.S. visa restrictions were not an act of diplomatic reciprocity, but a tactic to exert pressure. “You will be the same person that will castigate us if we acquiesce to accepting Venezuelan prisoners into Nigeria,” he remarked.

m, Cameroon, and Ethiopia would now be valid for just three months and limited to a single entry.

“Men Have Audacity” – BBNaija’s Kimoprah Shares Experience With Bold Suitors Abroad

Former Big Brother Naija star, Kimoprah, has sparked conversation on social media after revealing how some men, particularly taxi drivers and immigration officers, have boldly made advances at her during her travels abroad.

Speaking on a recent episode of The BTS Reality podcast, Kimoprah expressed surprise at the confidence of such men, implying they were not her preferred type.

“Taxi drivers try to talk to me… Men have audacity,” she said. “When you travel abroad, you know how it is there, they don’t really care about class; they can talk to anybody. Anybody is within right of speech.”

She added that while these men approach her confidently, the kind of men she’s actually interested in often shy away.

“But the people that you want to attract, those ones shy away. It’s even better you shy away because that means you’re not for me. So, it’s okay. The one that is meant for me would eventually come and will stay,” she said.

Her comments have stirred mixed reactions online, with many debating class, confidence, and attraction in romantic pursuit.

Media Personality Scott Iguma Remanded Over Allegations Against Real Estate Firm

Popular media personality and influencer, Scott Iguma, has been remanded in prison by the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikoyi.

The court issued the remand order on Thursday afternoon, a day after Iguma was arrested and detained at Panti Police Station for accusing real estate company, PWAN, of defrauding customers.

In a recent update, Nigerian singer Kokopee shared a video on Instagram confirming Iguma’s remand until Monday.

“I’m here in Ikoyi. Sadly, Scott has been remanded till Monday. He has been remanded for fighting for people. You have a problem with how he did it? Did he kill someone? Did he commit a crime? In Lagos, I thought they said defamation is not a crime?” Kokopee said.

Earlier this week, Iguma had taken to Instagram to allege that PWAN issues only receipts to customers instead of land. He claimed to have submitted 130 petitions to the EFCC on behalf of defrauded clients, with more yet to be filed.

He also alleged that the owner of PWAN was using top police officials to silence victims and suppress complaints.

As of now, the case has been adjourned until Monday, when further proceedings are expected.

Super Falcons Ready to Tame Zambia’s Attack – Ashleigh Plumptre

Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre says the Nigerian team is fully prepared for a tough showdown against the Copper Queens of Zambia in the quarter-finals of the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Casablanca.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Plumptre acknowledged the attacking strength of Zambia, who have netted six goals so far, second highest in the tournament, led by their dangerous duo, Barbara Banda and Racheal Kundananji.

“Obviously, we know that Zambia have really good attacking threats and we respect that, and we’re prepared for that,” said the Al-Ittihad Ladies of Saudi Arabia centre-back. “But we don’t prepare for two players, we prepare for Zambia as a whole team.”

She added that the Super Falcons have devised a tactical plan to counter not just Banda and Kundananji, but the overall Zambian threat as they fight for a place in the semi-finals.

Buhari Served Without Embezzling Public Funds – Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has praised the late former President Muhammadu Buhari as a leader who served Nigeria with integrity and without misappropriating public funds.

Akpabio made this known on Thursday during an expanded Federal Executive Council meeting held in Abuja to honour the late president.

"Let us be honest, he was tough. He was a soldier who did not flinch under fire, a leader who did not flee from responsibility, and above all, a Nigerian whose loyalty to this nation was never up for sale," he said.

According to him, Buhari's toughness was rooted in patriotism and an unwavering belief that Nigeria was worth fighting for, despite its many challenges.

“Even his fiercest critics will admit that he did not pilfer the nation’s purse, nor pander to its pleasures to the very end,” Akpabio added.

GOUNI and NigerWives team up to open new doors for adult learners in Enugu.

In a heartwarming move to bridge the literacy gap among adults in Enugu, Godfrey Okoye University is partnering with the NigerWives Association (Enugu branch) on a three-month intensive literacy programme aimed at empowering home assistants and caregivers with essential communication, reading, and numeracy skills.

Speaking during the NigerWives’ visit to GOUNI Radio, the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Brother Professor Ekene Gregory Osuji, noted that the programme targets adults from age 20 and above who may not have had access to formal education. He announced that training for the special teachers involved will begin next month, with certificates of participation and special recognitions for outstanding learners at the end of the programme.

The Director of the Directorate of Strategic Partnership, Dr. Mrs. Vero Mogbo, emphasized that the initiative aligns with the university's mission to extend quality education to all residents of Enugu, regardless of background or social status.

Mrs. Hazel Kalu, who led the NigerWives delegation, explained that the goal is to help house helps and caregivers relate better with their employers through improved communication and writing skills.

Both Professor Osuji and Dr. Mogboh, alongside the NigerWives, paid glowing tribute to the Vice-Chancellor, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, commending his 25 years of dedicated priestly service and his unwavering commitment to inclusive education.

This community-driven partnership is yet another powerful example of how GOUNI continues to use education as a tool for empowerment and social change.
