Technology has taken over our kids lives. Kids no longer pay attention to family, chores, homework but they are busy on social media - Gen z.
Again making them do chores brings the children together , reduces stress on the mother and prepares the children for the future.
So, teaching children to help with house chores works best when it feels like teamwork, not punishment. Here are simple ways to encourage them:
1. Start Early and Keep It Simple
Give age-appropriate tasks:
Ages 3–5: pick up toys, wipe tables, put clothes in basket
Ages 6–9: sweep, fold small clothes, set the table
Ages 10+: wash dishes, cook simple meals, clean rooms
2. Turn Chores Into a Routine
Children cooperate more when chores become normal daily habits. Example:
Morning: make the bed
After meals: clear plates
Evening: tidy toys/books
3. Work Together First
Instead of saying:
“Go clean the room.”
Try:
“Let’s clean this room together for 10 minutes.”
Children learn faster by watching.
4. Praise Effort, Not Perfection
Avoid criticizing every mistake. Say things like:
“You tried hard.”
“Thank you for helping.”
“You’re becoming responsible.”
Encouragement builds confidence.
5. Make It Fun
Play music while cleaning
Use timers (“Let’s finish before the song ends!”)
Turn tasks into little competitions or games
6. Give Them Responsibility
Children feel proud when trusted. Let them “own” certain chores:
watering plants
feeding pets
arranging shoes
cleaning their study table
7. Avoid Doing Everything for Them
If parents always rush to do the chores themselves, children may expect it forever. Teach patiently instead.
8. Use Rewards Wisely
Rewards can help occasionally:
extra playtime
family movie night
stickers or small treats
But the long-term goal is responsibility, not payment for every task.
9. Be a Good Example
Children copy what they see. When parents share chores respectfully, children learn cooperation naturally.
10. Stay Consistent
They may complain at first. That’s normal. Gentle consistency works better than shouting.

“Everyone who lives in the house helps take care of it.”
