Doctor abandons patient during surgery to have s*xual activity with nurse

A 44-year-old consultant anaesthetist left a patient under anaesthesia during surgery to engage in s*xual activity with a nurse in another operating theater

A shocking medical misconduct case has resurfaced in the UK, where a consultant anaesthetist left a patient under anaesthetic on an operating table to have s*x with a nurse in another room.

According to the BBC, which first reported the case on 11 September 2025, 44-year-old Dr. Suhail Anjum walked out of surgery midway at Tameside Hospital in Greater Manchester in September 2023.

He told colleagues he needed a “comfort break” but was later found in a “compromising position” with an unnamed nurse, referred to as Nurse C, in a separate operating theatre.

Since that report, the case has taken over social media platforms, with many users expressing outrage at the breach of trust and debating whether Dr Anjum should ever be allowed to return to practice.

Resident Doctors in FCT Begin Seven-Day Warning Strike

The Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory (ARD-FCT), has embarked on a seven-day warning strike to protest unresolved issues in the health sector.

Announcing the action in Abuja, ARD-FCT President, Dr. George Ebong, said the decision followed resolutions at an emergency meeting on Friday, September 5. He explained that despite several rounds of dialogue, the FCT Administration had failed to address long-standing concerns.

Issues raised include lack of manpower, poor welfare, unpaid salaries, unexplained deductions, and the psychological toll of long working hours. Ebong noted that no new employment has taken place since 2011, leaving doctors to cover multiple departments. He recalled that the pressure of excessive workload recently led to the death of a doctor in Port Harcourt.

The association also cited unsafe conditions, pointing to a nurse who died from a snake bite in Abaji General Hospital. “The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has been notified severally of the issues affecting doctors but has allegedly turned a blind eye,” Ebong said. He urged the administration to declare a state of emergency across the 14 district and general hospitals in the FCT.

The strike, he stressed, will be uninterrupted. “If after seven days the issues raised are not resolved, the doctors will embark on an indefinite strike,” he warned, adding that decision-making must include frontline health professionals.

Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Isaq Salako, expressed optimism that ongoing talks with the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) could avert a nationwide strike. “The National Association of Resident Doctors has issued an ultimatum, but I believe with the level of conversation ongoing, we had a meeting on Monday; we are making progress,” he said on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

He explained that the main issue remains the residency training allowance, about 40 percent of which for 2025 is yet to be paid. “That is my hope, and that is what we are working on,” he added.

Tears Flow as Phyna Bids Emotional Farewell to Younger Sister, Ruth Otabor 💔🕊️

It was a heartbreaking day for Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, as she laid her beloved younger sister, Ruth Otabor, to rest.

Ruth, a fresh graduate of Auchi Polytechnic, tr@gically l0st her life last month after a fatal accident involving a Dangote truck near her school. The young graduate sustained devastating injuries, including an amputation, and later succumbed to complications from the accident.

💔 Friends, family, and sympathizers gathered today to pay their last respects, as a visibly shattered Phyna broke down during the burial ceremony.

The p@in of l0sing a sister so young, so full of promise, is beyond words.

This devastating loss has reignited urgent calls for stricter road safety regulations, especially regarding the unchecked movement of heavy-duty trucks on Nigerian roads. 🇳🇬🚛

Our thoughts and prayers are with Phyna and the entire Otabor family during this dark time. 🙏🕯️

Rest in peace, Ruth. You were deeply loved and will never be forgotten. 🕊️🖤

Shinning down a lamp-post, the tiny gorilla almost seems to be laughing as he dodges past his keeper at an Istanbul zoo he’s called home since being rescued from traffickers.

He was five months old when he was discovered, days before Christmas, crammed into a wooden crate in the cargo section of a Turkish Airlines plane en route from Nigeria to Thailand, his terrified face making headlines across Turkey and beyond.

Nearly nine months on and Zeytin (Turkish for olive), as he was named, is an entirely different creature from the traumatised infant brought to Polonezkoy Zoo in the hills outside Istanbul to recover from his trafficking ordeal.

His recovery means he will be soon sent back to Nigeria where he began his journey, Turkish officials say.

PAP Deploys Over 140 Foreign Scholarship Beneficiaries

•••We're Complementing Tinubu's Development Agenda For N'Delta- Otuaro

The Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) has deployed over 140 beneficiaries it awarded scholarships for post-graduate studies across universities in the United Kingdom.

Speaking at the pre-departure briefing/orientation ceremony for the foreign scholarship beneficiaries at the PAP headquarters in Abuja, on Thursday, the Administrator, Dr Dennis Otuaro, expressed the hope that they would add value to the socio-economic advancement of the Niger Delta and indeed Nigeria when they complete their studies.

At the event, brand new laptops were distributed to the post-graduate scholarship beneficiaries aimed at enhancing their studies and research.

Otuaro said the human resource base of the Niger Delta would be enriched when they finished their programmes, and also contribute to efforts at reducing the region's human capital development gap.

He stressed that the massive deployment under the PAP's formal education component complemented President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda for the region.

Otuaro explained that the beneficiaries were deployed for studies in industry-competitive and professional disciplines, noting that "with the knowledge they will acquire, they will contribute to the development of the region and the nation in general."

The PAP boss further said, "If you put the number of beneficiaries we are deploying today together, over 140, all of them are going for post-graduate studies in universities in the United Kingdom.

"We are confident that when they complete their studies and return, they will add value to the socio-economic advancement of the Niger Delta, and the human capacity resource of the region will be enriched. They will add value to our communities, the region, and the nation.

"What we are doing today is a deliberate effort to take the development agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, to the people in the communities of the Niger Delta.

"When the President appointed me last year, he gave me a mandate and that is to take this programme to the people. That is what we are doing.

"We have other aspects of the PAP. However, this foreign post-graduate scholarship deployment takes cognizance of professional areas that are industry-competitive. We also deploy beneficiaries for other programmes in-country."

He, therefore, advised them to shun distractions and take their studies seriously in order to justify the Federal Government's investment in their education, and be good ambassadors of their families, communities, the Niger Delta and the country.

Also, the Technical Assistant to the PAP Administrator, Edgar Daniel; the Provost Marshal, Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. M.O Erebulu; and the Head of PAP's Education Department, Dr Charles Ariye delivered talks on cultural/social dynamics of studying in the UK and Europe, the diplomatic and security implications of studying abroad, and the academic dynamics of studying in the UK, respectively, to guide the beneficiaries' conduct.

Some of the beneficiaries, including Gift Gbaminido and Amadimati Greatman, thanked the PAP Administrator for awarding them post-graduate scholarships to study abroad, and pledged to make good use of the opportunity.

Signed:
Mr Igoniko Oduma
Special Assistant on Media to the Administrator, Presidential Amnesty Programme.
