Forget the 5-star review on Trustpilot. Scandals happen. Just expect it in the lifespan of your business.
Business scandals range from negative comments, and product reviews, to full-scale business fraud and everything everything.
It's just about anything that takes the stage light away from your business and believe me, your customers don't fancy such news.
Preparing for business scandals means setting up strategies and a responsive team to swing into action when it eventually happens.
It doesn't mean that you wish your business bad luck (I mean, who does?).
A little back-story of when my name was on the line of something I wasn't capable of doing, truth be told... I managed well but not as I would have if I knew how to manage it.
I had to go back to the drawing and learn about managing scandals.
Now, I'm better off than when I first faced it.
Now to our topic, how did I prepare myself against business scandalπ
β
I evaluated the whole situation and what led to it.
β
I was honest upfront because a little dishonesty means that my reputation will be thrown out of the window.
β
I responded to it most calmly and professionally as I could.
β
I provided verifiable evidence.
β
I followed it up by tying all loose ends and clarifying doubts.
Even if you run a large corporation, it's not in your best interest to tell the press, 'No comments,' because journalists may give it another angle, passing it off as being guilty of the scandal.
Rather, tell the press that you don't have all the facts and you'll get back to them when you do.
If you have a standby REPUTATION MANAGEMENT TEAM, they'll guide you on actionable steps to take.
However, you could hire a PR firm that manages reputation to help you navigate through the rough waters.
Lest I forget, kindly don't let your emotions fly through the roof when faced with a scandal, and think through the situation before giving it a response.
