Labour Party Bigwigs Return to PDP in Enugu, Cite Mbah’s Performance as Reason
In a major political realignment in Enugu State, two prominent Labour Party figures, Titus Odo, the state publicity secretary of the party, and Emeka Mamah, former Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs and state coordinator of Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign, have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The duo, who had left the PDP for the Labour Party during the 2023 general elections, were officially received back into the party at the PDP state secretariat on Wednesday by the party chairman, Martin Chukwunwike.
Chukwunwike welcomed the returnees with optimism, stating that their homecoming was in line with Governor Peter Mbah’s directive to reconcile with former members. “We are happy to have them in our midst, and God has set this party on a good foot, as 2027 is already assured,” he said, urging party unity ahead of the next general elections.
Speaking on his defection, Mr. Odo expressed satisfaction at rejoining his former party. He credited Governor Mbah’s “giant developmental strides” across the state as a key reason for his return, alongside the recent defection of his former principal, Labour Party governorship candidate Dr. Chijioke Edeoga.
Odo also praised Igboeze North council chairman Uchenna Ogara, noting his transformation of the local area “into a township.”
Mr. Mamah, in his remarks, thanked the PDP’s leadership at all levels for welcoming him back and commended Governor Mbah’s leadership style and outreach to former party members.
The defections are seen as a strategic boost for the PDP in Enugu ahead of the 2027 elections, signaling what could be a wave of reconciliation and reorganization within the party.
