Earlier today, I have just started reviewing a prescription when one patient leaned over the counter and said:
“Hello is my medicine ready? I’ve been waiting for almost forever!”
I checked the clock, he had been waiting all of five minutes.
I smiled and explained, “Sir, I just need to verify your prescription to make sure everything is correct and safe for you.”
But he waved his hand like I was wasting his time:
“Ah! Madam, I’m not allergic to anything! Just give me the medicine!”
In my head, I thought: “If only you knew how many times I have caught wrong doses or dangerous drug combination” But I kept my cool, finished the check, and gave him the medicines, along with a quick counseling session.
The moment he left, another patient came up and said:
“Madam, please make my own fast too I don’t want to grow old here.”
😅 Working as a hospital pharmacist has taught me two things, which are :
1️⃣ Patience is truly a virtue especially in the pharmacy queue.
2️⃣ Most patients do not realize that those extra minutes we take can literally save lives.
So next time you are waiting for your medicines, remember we are not delaying you, we’re protecting you. ❤️
