It's Exam season....some schools are even done with it .
How do we as adults , teachers and parents prepare children for exams ?
Children don't know how to do this by themselves ....most don't even give a hoot about it , but they really need to prepare for it. π₯°
Here are some tips to help us , especially intentional parents to prepare the learners.
1. Create a Study Schedule:
π¦ Plan out study times and breaks, don't leave everything for the school to do.
π¦Set realistic goals and deadlines. For example learning of the multiplication table from 1-8 ..."I will ask you on Saturday ."
Learning of spellings from their notes , etc...." I will ask you to spell these words when I come back from work. " ,etc
2. Practice Past Papers:
π¦Use previous exams or practice questions, you can set review questions to guide them.
π¦ Identify areas for improvement. Every child is different, one may have problems with spellings, another with memorising, etc. You can use mnemonics to help as well, you can use acronyms or songs with a certain rhythm....π
3. Make Learning Fun:
π¦ Use flashcards, games, or interactive quizzes. Introduce reward system too.
π¦Make study sessions engaging and interactive, use videos that are age appropriate to further explain the concept.
4. Provide a Conducive Study Environment:
π¦Ensure a quiet, comfortable space.
π¦Minimize distractions (e.g., TV, phones).
5. Encourage Healthy Habits:
π¦Promote balanced meals and snacks.
π¦Ensure adequate sleep and exercise.
6. Offer Support and Guidance:
π¦Be available to answer questions, they're encouraged when they see you have time to answer their questions.
π¦Provide guidance without doing the work for them, some people are guilty of writing the activity for them instead of teaching them how to go about it.
7. Stay Positive and Motivated:
π¦Praise effort, not just results.
π¦Remind them of their strengths and progress.π₯°
Wishing all our children success in all their exams. π
