DON'T BUILD A FUTURE WITH SOMEONE WHO KEEPS MAKING YOU DOUBT YOUR OWN POTENTIAL.
There is something beautiful about having a partner who genuinely wants to see you win.
Not someone who will agree with every idea you have, because let's be honest, some of our ideas need serious prayers. 😂
But someone who, even when they see the risks, still wants to help you think through them.
You say, “I want to start this business.”
Instead of immediately hearing, “It won't work,” they say,
“Okay, let's look at it. How much do you need? What do you need to start? How can I support you?”
You say, “I want to learn something new.”
They say, “Go for it. I'll help you create time for it.”
You tell them about a dream that has been sitting in your heart for years, and they don't laugh at it or make you feel foolish for wanting more.
They may even say,
“I believe you can do this. Let's figure it out.”
That kind of support matters.
Because life is already going to give you enough people telling you that you cannot make it.
You don't need to come home to another one.
And I'm not saying your partner must support every decision blindly. A good partner can question your plans, point out the risks and tell you when something doesn't make sense.
But there is a difference between healthy caution and constant discouragement.
If every new idea is met with “It won't work,”
every dream is met with “Who do you think you are?”
and every attempt to grow is met with reasons why you should remain exactly where you are...
Please, pay attention.
You should be able to grow beside your partner, not constantly shrink yourself to keep them comfortable.
Because the person you are building a future with should not be threatened by your growth.
They should want to see you become more.
And sometimes, support won't even be money.
It may simply be:
“Go. I believe in you.”
“What do you need from me?”
“How can I help?”
“Let's see how we can make this work.”
Those words can carry someone through seasons when everything else feels uncertain.
So if you're with someone who constantly makes you doubt yourself, your dreams and your ability to become more, don't ignore that pattern.
Maybe they are genuinely trying to protect you from failure.
Maybe they are afraid of change.
Maybe they don't understand your vision.
Whatever the reason, you still need to pay attention to how their constant discouragement is affecting you.
Because love should not require you to become smaller just so your partner can feel bigger.
Find someone who can look at your dream, even when it looks impossible, and still say, “Okay... let's see how we can make this happen.”
That is the kind of person you want beside you when life gets serious.
And if you already have someone like that, please don't take them for granted.
