Three worshippers have reportedly been killed while 15 others were abducted after gunmen attacked a night vigil prayer ground in Kwara State.

The tragic incident happened on Saturday night, May 23, 2026, at Ori-Oke Ajaiye near Ikiran Village in Ekiti Local Government Area of the state. According to reports, the worshippers were holding a vigil when heavily armed attackers stormed the prayer ground, opened fire, and whisked several people away into the forest.

Police authorities confirmed the attack on Sunday and said tactical teams, intelligence units, and security operatives have launched rescue operations to find the kidnapped victims and arrest the perpetrators.

Suspected terrorists who abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State have reportedly opened communication with authorities over the release of the victims.

According to reports, the kidnappers said they are willing to negotiate, but gave a condition that only Governor Seyi Makinde should speak directly with them. They reportedly refused to negotiate with families or other individuals.

Sources revealed that security agencies and the state government are handling the situation carefully to avoid putting the lives of the abducted pupils and teachers in danger. The exact number of victims and other demands from the kidnappers have not been fully disclosed to the public.
