GRASSROOTS ROOTS — POLITICAL GROWTH THAT SPEAKS BEYOND TITLES

In political discourse, the spotlight often shines on headlines, office titles, or public appearances. But true leadership is deeply rooted, literally and figuratively, in the connection a leader maintains with the people and the systems that support governance at every level.

Mudashiru Obasa is a prime example of a political figure whose influence and credibility are built not merely on his position as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, but on decades of engagement at the grassroots level, fostering relationships, understanding local needs, and maintaining a consistent presence within his constituencies and party structures.

Lagos is a state of contrasts: bustling urban centers, expanding suburbs, and densely populated local government areas. Leaders who only navigate state-level politics without intimate knowledge of local dynamics often miss critical realities that affect policy implementation.

Obasa’s political journey includes extensive interaction with local governance structures, party operatives, and community leaders—an experience that grounds his vision in practical, on-the-ground realities. This is the kind of exposure that transforms legislative oversight into policies that resonate with ordinary citizens.
Political growth, in this context, is more than career progression. It is about building trust over time.

It is about demonstrating consistency and reliability in both action and engagement. A leader who invests in grassroots networks is not simply collecting political capital; they are creating channels for feedback, accountability, and informed decision-making.

For Lagos, a state with complex socio-economic challenges, such networks are invaluable. Policies only succeed when they reflect lived realities, and leaders with genuine grassroots roots are uniquely positioned to bridge the gap between governance and citizens’ daily experiences.

Equally important is loyalty. Obasa’s long-standing commitment to the All Progressives Congress and his alignment with its structures have allowed him to influence party cohesion positively while simultaneously nurturing

EXPERIENCE IS NOT NOISE, IT IS STABILITY.

When conversations about 2027 begin, emotions will rise, alliances will shift, and new faces will emerge with fresh promises. But beyond excitement and slogans, governance—especially in a complex state like Lagos—requires something deeper: institutional memory, political maturity, and proven stability. One name that consistently appears in discussions around legislative leadership in Lagos is Mudashiru Obasa. As one of the longest-serving Speakers of the Lagos State House of Assembly, his political journey is not built on sudden visibility but on sustained presence within the system. In a state as strategic as Lagos, experience is not a decorative achievement; it is a functional asset.

For years, he has presided over legislative activities that shape laws, approve budgets, and provide oversight on the executive arm of government. That role requires not just authority, but negotiation skills, consensus building, and the ability to manage diverse political interests without destabilizing the institution. Leadership at that level is not always loud; it is often about maintaining order, ensuring continuity, and keeping governance machinery running smoothly even when political temperatures rise. In a political environment where many seek executive office without deep legislative exposure, understanding how laws are conceived, debated, amended, and implemented becomes a significant advantage.

From a governance perspective, Lagos is not an entry-level administrative space. It is Nigeria’s commercial nerve center, a state with complex urban challenges, revenue structures, infrastructure demands, and a fast-growing population. Steering such a state requires more than ambition; it requires someone who understands the internal workings of government—how policy moves from proposal to implementation, how fiscal approvals are structured, and how oversight can prevent systemic breakdowns. Having served within the legislative arm for an extended period, Obasa represents a model of continuity within the political architecture of Lagos under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

THE CICERO OF SURULERE: Femi Gbajabiamila: A Lagos Man with a Vision for 2027

Femi Gbajabiamila is not just a politician; he is the embodiment of Lagos leadership, a man whose life, work, and ambition are deeply intertwined with the heartbeat of the city. Born and raised in Lagos, with roots in Surulere and a lifelong connection to Lagosians, he has dedicated decades to public service, demonstrating exceptional legislative skill, visionary thinking, and a unique ability to unite people across all walks of life.

Rising from humble beginnings to becoming the Speaker of the House of Representatives, he has proven that leadership is not about titles but results, impact, and integrity.

Under his speakership, the House of Representatives became a hub of efficiency, transparency, and lawmaking excellence, passing critical bills that advanced national development while addressing local Lagos concerns, from youth empowerment initiatives to educational reforms, infrastructural development, and economic policies that stimulated growth across communities.

Beyond legislative accomplishments, Gbajabiamila is admired for his foresight and strategic mindset, always anticipating challenges, crafting solutions, and ensuring that every policy he champions has measurable benefits for Lagosians.

His loyalty to APC values, coupled with his unwavering commitment to public service, positions him as a unifying force capable of bridging divides, inspiring citizens, and delivering governance that is inclusive, accountable, and progressive. Lagos faces complex challenges in areas such as traffic, security, housing, and employment, and it requires a leader who not only understands these issues at their core but also possesses the experience, vision, and dexterity to implement sustainable solutions.

Femi Gbajabiamila’s track record shows he is that leader: a man of action, a thinker, a problem-solver, and a servant of the people whose ambition is not personal aggrandizement but the transformation of Lagos into a model state, a city where opportunities abound, governance is transparent, and every citizen feels the impact of progressive leadership.

FROM MARGINS TO MAINSTREAM: A STRATEGIC CONVERSATION FOR N'DIGBO YOUTH

For years, many Igbo voices have spoken about marginalization. That concern is real and deserves discussion. But how do you reduce marginalization? By staying outside the system? Or by entering the system and negotiating from inside? Every powerful region in Nigeria today participates actively in federal politics. They lobby. They negotiate. They build alliances. They position their people in strategic places. That is how influence works in every democracy.

When young businessmen who have built economic empires decide to sit at national tables, it should not automatically be seen as betrayal. It can also be seen as a strategy. Politics is not always about emotions. It is often about presence. If you are not present, you are not considered. If you are not represented, you are easily ignored.

RIVERS STATE AND ITS LET DOWN POLITICS:

The day you starts blaming Governor Siminalayi Funara for the unsettling and political hullabaloo in Rivers State is the day you Divorce Common Sense. Yes. I says it unequivocally.

Let's set the record straight, it was very cleared from the above that the version of politics they're practicing in Rivers State is Betrayal Politics, of which father can't trust his son politically and son can't subscribe to every instruction uttered by his father.

Since 1999, when the democracy wasn't loss its virginity, the then Governor Peter Odili was Fmr. Governor Amaechi's political father who deliberately out of love brought him into politics and also transformed him into political limelight. This man traded his presidential ambition in 2007 without receiving shishi for the candidacy of Amaechi as governorship candidate of PDP in 2007 at A*o Rock when OBJ told Dr. Peter Odili that his political son wasn't party choice in that electioneering. But at the end of the day, when the sun go to rest, WHAT DID AMAECHI did to Baba? I thinks the answer can be present to us by Google. You'll see this in Dr. Peter Odili's book titled "How Amaechi Betrayed Me".

In the early of Amaechi's hegemony, God sent a messanger to him, of which the Man was presented as a 'Yes Man' whom seemed to abide to every directive of Amaechi, the man was so calm that, if you describe a chemist shop to him, he would be telling people that you gave him a survival as if you paid for his drugs. Alas the man knew he was doing and cajolery but people taught he was respectful. You knows when loyalty was brought to you by sycophancy, it is unclear and unsave for you to be wise enough for Realization. The man is current FCT minister Hon. Eyesome Wike. Although i never had encounter with him before, but since when I've been following him, every person he has praised before has been downgraded by him after he has obtained one of the climax of political and democratical achievements. Wike was politically brought up, nurtured, and trained by Amaechi, even after numerous political trainings, he was even supported by Amaechi materially and intrumentally. Amaechi transfomed him from LGA Chairman of ObiAkpor LGA in Rivers to his Chief of Staff, and also nominated by Amaechi as Minister, not only those, he was also made by Amaechi as his successor when he left office as Governor of Rivers State. But what did Wike do to him? I thinks the answere is obvious to us and even on Grok.

Fast forward to today, an Architect, contributor and actor whom also betrayed his Boss, is now fighting his stooge not to debase his political career after he has done so many negagtive things to his.

I thinks Gov. Funara isn't a saint also, and not even better than any of his predecessors in every aspect of life and Hon. Wike isn't also a fantastic fellow. So any past Rivers State's governor who is standing by Gov. Fubara today is just thinking that "as long as you're fighting my enemy, we can be friends".

On the issue of Asiwaju, President Tinubu wants to win Rivers State in 2027 with big data, and he knows that, the Rivers State people love Gov. Fubara, but Wike is much politically devoted, charismatic and loyal than Fubara. That's why he has been intervening on their issue.

Note: I ONLY TALKS ABOUT WHO THEY POLITICALLY ARE, NOT THEIR LACUNA ON THIS FIGHT. EVERYONE OF THEM MADE MISTAKES BECAUSE THE ISSUE OF GODFATHERISM ISN'T NEW TO US. BUT STAY TUNE IN MY NEXT POST!
