What can children do about the climate crisis? Zach is my youngest guest on the Climate Talk Podcast and I must admit he is not just smart, he is very optimistic that little actions matter in making the world a better place.

Ever wonder why governments continue to subsidize fossil fuel despite knowing the danger it poses to people and our planet; ignoring cleaner options such as solar panels which have been functional for a long time. This was part of the exciting chat with Zach Fox Devol, we also spoke about how children make up an important stakeholder in the discourse about climate change. He opened me up to new knowledge and historical records of climate action in the United States of America.

More about my guest:
Zach Fox-DeVol is an extraordinary 11-year-old climate activist and the host of We The Children, a podcast about climate change and global warming solutions. Each week he interviews expert guests and tackles hard topics on caring for our planet, in a fun way from an 11-year-old’s perspective. When he is not working on podcasts, you can find Zach in California working on magic tricks, chess, 3D printing, and Rubik's cube.

“I interviewed my mom a couple weeks ago for an independent like article in the UK and when we spoke about environment, my mom felt that she didn't know enough to have the conversation with me, but when I just asked her about when she grew, how my grandma had a garden where she grew, all her herbs that she would use in her suits. Hearing my mom talk about whenever my grandma would go and cook on Sundays, how all of her siblings would go out and get the yam and get the different flavors and get the different herbs and bring it inside. Like even just seeing the joy that that memory brought to her reminds her of how much she cares about the environment and we need to understand. If we don't ke take care of the environment, those kinds of memories will not be ones that we can pass down or have our younger generations experience” ~ Daze Aghaji.

“I don't want to bring kids into a world where they might need to kill others to have water, to breathe air, it is crazy!”

Imagine the chill that this statement sent down my spine as I sat next to Sebastian Kirppu earlier this week to record this episode of the . Sebastian is a forest biologist, one of Europe’s foremost biodiversity activists and a well-known champion of the forest for over 25 years who has been conducting inventories and leading guided forest tours.

“If we keep on doing this, we will destroy the future for our grandkids and that's one of the ideas of why I haven't got any kids, because I'm afraid of that. We need to protect more forests because it is one of the crucial ways to mitigate the climate change and stop the loss of our biodiversity.” Sebastian introduced me to a completely different approach to understanding our forest.

We also spoke about the countries with the most-forested natural landmass; about deforestation rate across the world, over the years; about the need to rethink our approach towards educating the public, to mention a few.

Does our changing climate today shape your hopes about the future?

President Kugame said at the ongoing that "Today in Africa, more than half a billion people still do not have access to electricity. This shows there is a global energy inequality gap! Any idea on how this gap can be bridge?
