JUST IN: INEC finally recognises ADC under David Mark’s leadership

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally recognised the new leadership of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), with former Senate President, Senator David Bonaventure Mark, emerging as National Chairman.

INEC confirmed the change in the party’s particulars on its official website on Wednesday in Abuja, effectively ending months of leadership tussle within the ADC.

According to the commission, the newly approved National Working Committee will be headed by Senator Mark as National Chairman, while former Osun State governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has been listed as the National Secretary.

Other members include Dr Mani Ibrahim Ahmad as National Treasurer; Akibu Dalhatu as National Financial Secretary; and former Edo State governor, Prof. Oserheimen Aigberaodion Osunbor, as National Legal Adviser.

The development is expected to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, with stakeholders expressing optimism about its renewed direction.

Blackout as national grid côllapses

This was confirmed in a public notice dated September 10, 2025, by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company in a post on its X handle on Wednesday.

According to AEDC, the power outage currently experienced was due to a loss of supply from the national grid.

The post reads, “Please be informed that the power outage currently being experienced is due to a loss
of supply from the national grid at 11:23 am today, affecting electricity supply across
our franchise areas.”

The company, however, assured the public that work was ongoing to restore the grid.

It added, “Rest assured, we are working closely with the relevant stakeholders to ensure power is
restored once the grid is stabilised.

In 2024, the grid collapsed 12 times and over 100 times in 10 years.

Also in February, the national grid collapsed, throwing many Nigerians into a blackout.

Following the constant power outages occasioned by the incessant grid collapses, six firms and one private university received the approval of the NERC to generate and distribute electricity in April.

Despite this, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, in its July report, claimed that there was no power system collapse nor disturbance in the first quarter of 2025.

“There was no incidence of system disturbance on the national grid in 2025/Q1,” the report stated.

American woman chârged with registering her dôg to vote

A US woman charged with registering her dôg to vote appeared in court Tuesday facing charges that could see her jaîled for six years.

Laura Yourex, 62, posted a photograph on social media showing her dôg Maya Jean wearing an “I voted” sticker after California’s 2021 gubernatorial election.

Another post from October 2024 showed a photograph of Maya’s dôg tag and a vote-by-mail ballot with the caption “maya is still getting her ballot” even though the dôg had dîed.

Yourex, of Costa Mesa, south of Los Angeles, reported herself to authorities over the alleged voter fraud last year.

The local district attorney investigated and she was charged with multiple felonies including perjury, procuring or offering a false or forged document, casting a ballot when not entitled to vote, and registering a non-existent person to vote.

After a brief court appearance Tuesday, in which she did not enter a plea, Yourex’s lawyer said his client had sought to highlight what she saw as defects in the system.

“Laura Yourex sincerely regrets her unwise attempt to expose flaws in our state voting system, intending to improve it by demonstrating that even a dog can be registered to vote,” Jaime Coulter told reporters.

Coulter said Yourex’s intention was “to have them investigate and ultimately improve our voting registration system.”

Under California election law, citizens can be registered to vote if they submit an affidavit — signed under penalty of perjury — detailing their name, residence, mailing address, date of birth and political party preference.

“Proof of residence or identification is not required for citizens to register to vote in state elections nor is it required to cast a ballot in state elections,” the Orange County District Attorney’s office said in a statement.

Proof of residence and registration is required for first-time voters in a federal election, it said.

“As a result, the 2022 primary ballot cast in Maya Jean’s name was challenged and rejected.”

US voter roll security has become a huge issue in recent decades, with a constant drum beat from a swathe of the Republican Party charging — without evidence — that they are filled with non-citizens and dead people.

A salt merchant had a donkey that he used to carry bags of salt to the market every day.

One day, as they were crossing a small river on their way to the market, the donkey suddenly stumbled and fell into the water. The salt dissolved, making the bags lighter, which delighted the donkey greatly.

From that day on, the donkey began repeating the same trick daily. However, the merchant soon realised what the donkey was doing and decided to teach him a lesson. The next day, instead of salt, he filled the bags with cotton and placed them on the donkey's back.

"My salary came yesterday and immediately I received alert, I rushed to my husband and asked him how much he needs me to contribute after informing him that my salary has been paid.

Oga thought I was joking and mentioned a figure thinking I was going to contest because it was almost all my salary, I just carried my phone and transferred it to him.

It was doing him like film, I then went ahead to pay the salary of our children's lesson teacher so that he would stop thinking about it.

That's when I realized that he was doing so much without complaining He sees it like his duty and even when the financial burden is too much, he struggles to pay without asking me.

He was so surprised and happy, I know that my money is just a fraction of what he brings but he felt like I gave him millions.

I then told him that I am putting in the effort to make more money so that I can still reduce his stress. He didn't marry a responsibility, he married an helper and he should be feeling more relaxed than when he was single.

I have never felt entitled to anybody's pocket and I won't do that with my husband.
