Du'a After Nightmare

Aʿūdhu bi kalimāt-i-llāhi-t-tāmmāti min ghaḍabihī wa ʿiqābih, wa sharri ʿibādih, wa min hamazāti-sh-shayaṭīni wa ay-yaḥḍurūn.

I seek protection in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and punishment, from the evil of His servants, from the evil suggestions of the devils and from them appearing to me.

ʿAmr b. Shuʿayb narrated from his father, who narrated from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “When one of you becomes frightened during sleep, then let him say: [the above]. Indeed they shall not harm him.” He said: “So ʿAbdullah b. ʿAmr (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) used to teach it to those of his children who attained maturity; and those of them who had not reached maturity, he would write it on a sheet and then hang it around their neck.” (Tirmidhī 3528)

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “A good dream is from Allah, and a bad dream is from Shayṭān. When anyone has a bad dream, he should seek Allah’s protection and spit on his left — indeed (the dream) will not harm him.” (Bukhārī 6986)

Du'a After Someone's Death

Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rājiʿūn, Allāhumma-‘jurnī fī muṣībatī, wa akhlif lī khayram-minhā.

Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we will return. O Allah, recompense me for my affliction and replace it for me with something better.

Umm Salamah (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhā) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “There is no Muslim who is afflicted with a calamity, and then says what Allah has commanded him [the above duʿā’], except that Allah will recompense him with something better than it.” She says: “When Abū Salamah (her first husband) passed away, I said, ‘Which Muslim is better than Abū Salamah – the first household to migrate to the Messenger of Allah?’ I then said [the above], and Allah recompensed me (by marrying me to) the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” (Muslim 918)

The Most Loving

Al-Wadūd

Allah showers His love to those who have imān and do righteous deeds. Al-Wadūd is:

1. The one who loves His servants.

2. The one who is loved by His servants.

Allah constantly bestows His love, mercy and favours to His creation, and receives the love of His servants when they worship & thank Him.

Connect to al-Wadūd

1. Love Allah more than everything else.

2. Ask Allah for His love. Say:

( I ask You for Your love, the love of those whom You love, and the love of deeds which will bring me closer to Your love.)

3. Do what will make you the recipient of Allah's love, especially following the example of Allah’s Messenger ﷺ.

4. Love your fellow believers. Purify your heart from hatred & envy. Give preference to them over yourself.

Du'a When Dismounting

Aʿūdhu bi kalimāti-l-llāhi-t-tāmmāti min sharri mā khalaq.

I seek protection in Allah’s perfect words from the evil of whatever He has created.

Khawlah bint Ḥākim (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhā) reported: “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “Whoever dismounts at a place and then says [the above], nothing will harm him until he sets off again from that place.” (Muslim 2708)
