BENUE ASSEMBLY PASSES WIDOWS COMMISSION BILL IN TO LAW

A bill seeking the establishment of the Benue State widows commission and prohibition of harmful cultural practices against widows, protecting them from exploitative acts and punishing offenders was today passed into law at the Benue State House of Assembly.

The bill was passed after scalling through a third reading during a plenary presided over by the Honourable Speaker Rt Hon Berger Alfred Emberga , MNIQS.

The passage of the bill followed a report from the House Standing Committee on women affairs chaired by Hon. Mrs. Becky Orpin ( Gboko East) State Constituency.

Hon. Becky said the law is premised on the fact that there are several ethnic groups in the state with diverse cultural norms and practices which negatively impact widows upon the death of their husbands which include but not limited to disinheritance from the assets of a deceased husband, banishment from a late husband’s home, being forced to marry a relation of the deceased husband amongst others.

Members unanimously supported the bill and the Honourable Speaker Alfred Emberga directed the clerk of the House Dr. Bem Faasema Mela to read the bill for the third time after which, it was successfully passed into law.

‎The event took place at her residence in Gboko Local Government Area, where she distributed bags of rice, cows, and cash gifts to enable them celebrate christmas.

‎While sharing the packages, she assured her constituents of accelerated development in the constituency come 2026. She called for massive support for the President of Nigeria and Sen. Dr. George Akume, CON, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

‎The gesture was met with joy and appreciation from the constituents, who praised her dedication to their welfare. They expressed hope that her efforts would translate to tangible development in the area.

‎BECKIE ORPIN AND COSMAS AKIGHIR HONOURED FOR OUTSTANDING IMPACT ON HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

‎The member of Benue State House of Assembly representing Gboko-East constituency, Hon Mrs. Beckie Orpin, and Barr. Cosmas Akighir, Board Chairman of the North Central Development Commission, were honoured for their outstanding impact on human development.
‎
‎The honour was celebrated during a new yam festival organized in their honour by Prince Orshi Ugese Mothers, led by Mrs. Sarah Ugese and Mrs. Dorcas Torkuma, at Tse-Ugese Ibo, Mbadim, Igyoruv-Ipav, in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.

‎The event featured testimonials and attracted a large crowd from all walks of life, including Hon. Comr. Abraham Jabi Ph.D, Hon. Ezra Nyiyongo, Rt Hon. Jonathan Agbidye, Elias Audu, and Hon. Peter Uche, members of the Benue State House of Assembly.

HON MRS BECKIE ORPIN REMAINS CONSCIOUS OF HER ROLES AS STAKEHOLDER AND REPRESENTATIVE OF THE PEOPLE OF GBOKO EAST

The Beckie Media Organization read concerns expressed by some members of the APC in Benue State after members of the integrity group of the Benue State House of Assembly made appearance at an event organized by supporters of Governor Hyacinth Alia at the J. S Tarka Stadium, Gboko.

Hon Mrs Beckie Orpin had attended several functions organized in her honour by her constituents before dashing into the venue of the occasion with her colleagues on invitation. While some of the concerns expressed by party supporters in view of the rising political tensions in the state are genuine, the Beckie media organization can see through the mischief that is intended by some reports planted on the social media.

Apart from being a committed stakeholder of the APC in Benue State, the general public must understand that Hon Mrs Beckie Orpin carries the mandate of the people of Gboko East and the prosecution of that mandate has no partisan limitations. The over politicization of this harmless attendance is deeply regretable.

The Beckie Media Organization condemns planted stories on the social media about phantom sums being shared among high profile officials in the state for the APC Governorship ticket. For the records, the APC governorship ticket in Benue state from antecedents has never being about the highest bidder. This decision has always being about the people and what they feel. We call on those aspiring for the APC Governorship ticket in 2027 to seek the support of the people and refrain from planting imaginary stories on the social media.

Hon Mrs Beckie Orpin knows exactly when to act as a stakeholder and as a member of the Benue State House of Assembly.
