The Gbugbu Community Development Union (GCDU) is reaching out to both our local residents and those beyond the borders of Gbugbu to address recent issues that have been the subject of much public discourse. As leaders representing the good people of Gbugbu, we feel it is our duty to clarify our stance regarding the rumors surrounding Gbugbu community which houses the famous Gbugbu International Market, as well as the unfounded allegations linking our community to criminal activities and insurgency.
We have been made aware of various claims circulating online that suggest Gbugbu has become a haven for banditry and kidnapping in Edu Local Government Area (LGA) of Kwara State. These assertions are not only false and misleading but also deeply damaging to the reputation of our peaceful community.
Firstly, the Gbugbu Community Development Union stands firmly against all forms of crime and violence. We categorically condemn the acts of kidnapping, robbery, drug abuse, and any other criminal activities that threaten and disrupt public peace and safety. It is imperative to remember that our community is built on trust, mutual respect, unity and values that are antithetical to criminal conduct.
In light of the escalating concerns regarding safety, we want to express our unwavering support for the actions taken by our local government to maintain order in the Edu LGA. Together with our community elders and youth, we are committed to collaborating with the authorities in any initiative aimed at ensuring the safety and security of every individual in our area.
Moreover, it is crucial to convey a strong message to anyone who may be tempted to engage with or support criminal elements in our midst. The GCDU urges the government to take stringent measures against anyone found guilty of aiding bandits or kidnappers because such actions does not represent our community’s values or our aspirations for a peaceful co-existence.
Patience is key during these challenging times. We urge all members of Gbugbu to remain resilient and hopeful. It is during times like these that our community’s strength shines brightest. We must continue to pray for peace and harmony not only within Gbugbu but across the state and Nigeria at large.
The recent temporary closure of the Gbugbu International Market, though difficult, is a necessary precaution to safeguard the welfare of our traders and the entire community. The size and significance of the market underscore the importance of prioritizing safety above all else. We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of traders and residents alike during this period.
Finally, we pray to Allah SWT to facilitate the safely return of those still under kidnappers captivity, and for an end to the turmoil affecting our community. Together, we will emerge victorious and stronger from this trial. We encourage every member of Gbugbu to join in our collective prayers for peace.
As we navigate through this difficult and challenging period, we want to remind everyone to be security conscious and always be mindful of their activities across social media platforms. May Allah restore peace back to our community, Amin.
Thank you
