TOPIC: DETHRONED BY CHARACTER BANKRUPTCY

SCRIPTURE: If it please the king, let there go a royal commandment from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, that it be not altered, That Vashti come no more before king Ahasuerus; and let the king give her royal estate unto another that is better than she. ESTHER 1:19

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: People lose their place in life and destiny because of bad character.

Esther 1: 10-12, tells us a story about a Queen in the ancient Persian Empire. It is a story about the loss of a crown and place of authority at the frequency of bad character.

The life and story of Queen Vashti reflected the negative impact of bad character. She lost her throne and place of authority by the bankruptcy of character.

Now, what happened?
The king, Ahasuerus who was her husband, had a feast, and on the seventh day when his heart was merry with wine, he sent for his wife, the queen, to come and show herself and her beauty to the people. The king wanted to boast and showcase the beauty of his wife to the world. But the queen refused to honour the king’s invitation. She disobeyed the orders of the king.

Expectedly, the embarrassed king became extremely angry. At the end, a suggestion was made by the council of leaders in the king’s cabinet, and the queen, Vashti, was dethroned.

The people told the king, “If this disrespectful character penetrates the kingdom, all women will become rebellious towards their husbands”. (Esther1:17; Paraphrased).

The people made the king know that character was contagious. And so, Vashti was removed out of power, and Esther took her place.

You see, a person who lacks character can never maintain authority. Character sells higher than beauty. Your character has a higher market value than your beauty. Queen Vashti rose to the position of authority, maybe by her beauty, but the bankruptcy of character brought her down.

Beloved, negative character dethrones a person. People lose their places in life and destiny because of bad character. You cannot sustain good legacy in life by negative character. You cannot sustain authority in life with negative character. People lose privileges and opportunities in life at the frequency of negative character.

My counsel is: refuse to be like Vashti. Don’t lose your position at the frequency of negative character.

Remember this: People lose their places in life and destiny because of bad character.

ASSIGNMENT:
1. By all means, deal with every trace of character deficiency in your life.

2. Ask God for the grace to live a holy and righteous life.

PRAYER: Father, I ask that You deliver me from every form of negative character. I receive the grace to always maintain a godly character, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

TOPIC: PUTTING YOURSELF IN THE SHOES OF OTHERS

SCRIPTURE: And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. MATTHEW 22:39.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The proof that you really love people is when you put yourself in their shoes and feel what they feel.

It has been established that one proof of love is having a heart of love for others. The proof of love is a heart for others.
Now, what does having a heart for others mean?
It means, putting yourself in the shoes of others in all that you do.

When you have a heart for others, you put yourself in their shoes in the things you do. In other words, you tell yourself, “If I was the one going through the suffering of my neighbour, how would I feel?”
Let me give you one example. If I put myself in the shoes of my wife, I would care for the children, care for the family, care for food and many other things women put themselves under pressure for in order to ensure the effective running of the home.
You know, most children go to their mothers when they need help. They go to their mothers when they need an eraser, a pencil, note book, etc. they go to their mother for their assignment or home work to be done. And even when some children meet their dad for assignments, the dad would tell them, “Go and meet your mother.”
So, as a husband, when you understand what your wife is going through, you deal with her on the basis of the understanding that there is a lot of pressure on her. Women are the only ones that can handle situations when the phone is ringing, food is on the fire, baby just “pooed” and then a stranger is knocking on the door. When you put a man in this kind of situation, he may run away from the house.

The point is, love means putting oneself in the shoes of others. The proof that you really love people is when you put yourself in their shoes and feel what they feel.

Remember this: The proof that you really love people is when you put yourself in their shoes and feel what they feel.

ASSIGNMENT:
1. Always put yourself in the shoes of others in all you do.
2. Consider the feeling of others before doing anything.

PRAYER: Lord, I ask that You deliver me from self-centredness. I receive the grace to put myself in the shoes of others and to consider their feelings in all that I do, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

DATE: MONDAY, OCTOBER 7TH, 2024

TOPIC: THE NECESSITY OF GODLY CHARACTER

SCRIPTURE: And Moses said unto the Lord, Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favour in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me? NUMBERS 11:11.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: When the weight of authority is higher than the strength of character, a crash of destiny is inevitable.

It has been established that it takes the strength of character to bear the weight of authority. One reason why godly character is needed is that it takes godly character to bear the weight and responsibility of authority.

This means, when the weight of authority is higher than the strength of character, a crash of destiny is inevitable. If someone carries or lifts a weight that is heavier than his strength, a physical bodily crash or breakdown is imminent.

So, when the weight of authority is heavier than the strength of character, destiny collapses. This was what happened to Samson. He got authority that he had no weight of character to sustain. His character couldn’t carry the authority he got, so, he crashed instantly.

This was what happened to Judas Iscariot also. He was made the keeper of the money in the Ministry of our Lord, Jesus Christ, but he had no character strength to sustain that responsibility. They made him the leader, but he was a thief on the inside. At the end of the day, he hanged himself because he did not have the strength of character to carry that weight of his authority and responsibility. What happened to Judas Iscariot was like making a thief a bank manager. He will soon be in jail because the “thievery” lifestyle in him would push him to becoming a thief.

When you make a thief a procurement officer, the chief financial officer (CFO) or the financial controller of an organisation, he will do some accounting frauds. He may escape for a while, but he would be sent to prison eventually.

Beloved, develop the right character to fulfil your destiny.

Remember this: When the weight of authority is higher than the strength of character, a crash of destiny is inevitable.

ASSIGNMENT:

1. Be determined to bear the responsibility of leadership by maintaining a strong character.

2. Maintain and uphold a godly character.

PRAYER: Father, I receive the grace to bear the responsibility of leadership by the strength of godly lifestyle. Help me to be an example of godly character, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

TOPIC: THE BLESSINGS OF WAITING ON GOD

SCRIPTURE: Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.
Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
Exodus 3:9-10.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Vision clarification happens when you wait on the Lord.

It has been confirmed that waiting on God has many benefits and blessings. To wait on God is to be blessed; to wait on God comes with great blessings.

Today, we shall be looking at two blessings of waiting on God in our study.
i. Waiting on the Lord is key to vision clarification.
The vision of life, career, ministry and destiny is clarified when you wait on the Lord.
Direction, which is a product of waiting on God, tells you the steps to take. Vision tells you what God wants you to do.
Vision clarification happens when you wait on the Lord.
Moses knew that he was to deliver Israel from Egypt, but for forty years, that vision was lost in his life. Then one day, he went to the backside of the desert, that is, on the mountain of the Lord, and his vision was recovered (Exodus 3:1-12). He had an encounter with God that brought back his vision. His vision was clarified when he waited on the Lord.

You can clarify your vision for life when you wait on the Lord and ask, “Lord, am I fulfilling the right vision? Am I pursuing the right course? Am I doing the thing you want me to do with my life?”
Camping with the Lord or waiting on the Lord is key to vision clarification.
ii. Waiting on the Lord is key to restoration. Whatever you lost in life can be regained when you wait on the Lord.
Moses lost his vision, purpose, and in fact, he almost got lost in the wilderness for 40 years. But when he came to hang around God, he found himself. (Exodus 3:1-10).

Beloved, I don't know if you have lost yourself or the real person you are meant to be, you can rediscover yourself when you wait on God.
You can rediscover yourself when you ask God, “Who am I? Where am I?”

Remember this: Vision clarification happens when you wait on the Lord.

ASSIGNMENT:
1. Make up your mind to wait on God for the clarification of your life’s vision.
2. Pursue your vision for living unto fulfilment.

PRAYER: Lord, I ask that You open my eyes to have the clarity of Your purpose for my life. I receive the grace to pursue the vision unto fulfilment, Lord, in Jesus’ Name, in Jesus’ Name.

TOPIC: THE PATHWAY TO A SETTLED DESTINY

SCRIPTURE: For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.
Psalm 119:89.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Anything that is settled on word has a settled future.

It has been established that there are factors or forces that are critical to having a solid destiny.

Today, we shall be looking at one of such factors. Now, one force behind a solid destiny is Revelation from Scripture.
Revelation from Scripture is a major source of an authentic vision. The Scripture is designed to give you the picture of your future. God uses Scriptures to paint pictures of your future.

Habakkuk 2:1 says,
I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.

What God says should be transformed to what you can see. Those who make a lot of impact in life and ministry are those who can translate the saying into seeing. Those who can transform and translate the Scripture into picture are those who have solid vision for solid destiny.
Jeremiah 2:31 says,
O generation, see ye the word of the Lord. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?

If you want to impact your generation positively, you must see the word of the Lord. One of the most authentic visions you can never fail is vision that is rooted in the word of God. This is because nothing settles destiny like the settled word.
Psalm 119:89 says,
For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.

Anything that is settled on word has a settled future. If your vision is a product of revelation from Scripture, then you have a settled destiny.

My counsel is, let revelation from Scripture be the basis of your vision for life and destiny.

Remember this: Anything that is settled on word has a settled future.

ASSIGNMENT:
1. Let revelation from Scripture be the basis of your vision for life and destiny.
2. Let the Scripture give you the picture for your future.

PRAYER: Lord, I ask that You open my eyes to see the picture of my future from the Scripture. Let Your Word be the basis of my vision for life and destiny, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

TOPIC: FROM MESSENGER TO MANAGER

SCRIPTURE: Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.
Proverb 14:34

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: It does not matter where you are in life, if you have character, the sky is your starting point.

Many years ago, someone asked the man of God, Billy Graham, a question, “Excuse me sir, what are the three secrets of your success in life and in ministry” Billy Graham replied, “The number one secret is character; number two secret is character, and number three secret is character.”

This means, it does not matter where you are in life, if you have character, the sky is your starting point. It doesn’t matter where you are now, just embrace godly character, and you will see all-round breakthroughs.

And the opposite of this is true. It doesn’t matter where a person is in life today, if character is lacking, a crash is only a matter of time.

I read a story about a young man from our father in the Lord, Bishop David Oyedepo.

This young man would clean the offices at his place of work about 30 minutes to an hour before every member of staff would arrive. He was full of zeal, hard work, energy and vitality, and he was very punctual, resuming before everyone else. And after the close of work, he would still remain for 30 minutes to one hour cleaning the office. This young man was a messenger, and the MD (Managing Director) of the company, who was a white man, was keenly observing him.

One day, the MD pointed a particular office to this young man and said, “Please go and clean that office for our new GM (General Manager)!”

Then, he went as usual, cleaned the office, and put it in order. Afterwards the MD said told him, “That is your office, and you are the new General Manager of this company.”

Can you imagine that! From a messenger, he rose to become a manager, all by the power of positive character.

Beloved, receive grace to go up in life as you deploy godly character, in Jesus’ Name.

Remember this: It does not matter where you are in your life, if you have character, the sky is your starting point.

ASSIGNMENT:
1. Make up your mind to make positive character your lifestyle.
2. Refuse to associate with people who are bankrupt of character.

PRAYER: Father, I receive the grace to be hardworking, industrious and punctual in everything I do. Help me to stand out from others, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

TOPIC: THE PLAGUE OF SELF-CENTREDNESS

SCRIPTURE: You should also know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. 2 For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred.
2 Timothy 3:1-2 (NLT).

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Selfishness is characterized by people loving only themselves and their money.

The plague of selfishness or self-centeredness has been identified to be a major hindrance to the love life. We live in a world that is plagued with selfishness and self-centeredness.
2 Timothy 3:1-2 says,
1. This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy
(KJV).

So, don't be surprised when you find yourself in an environment, association or group where no one cares about you. In most relationships these days, people don’t care about others, but about themselves. We live in a world that is filled with self-absorbed people.

Let me relate a very funny story to you. Many years ago, I asked a young man a question, “What kind of woman would you like to marry?”
He said, “I don't like those selfish kinds of women. I mean those kinds of women who always demand attention, who always want you to do things for them only.”
Then I asked him again, “Then what kind of woman would you like for a wife?”
He said, “I like the kind of woman that will pet me and baby me.”
I was shocked because it looked as if he didn’t remember what he told me earlier about the kind of woman he didn’t like for a wife.
That was a true definition of selfishness. The young man did not want a wife whom he would pet; rather, he wanted a wife that would pet him. It does not work like that.
You must understand that self-centeredness is the root of many problems in this world. Self-centeredness is behind kidnapping, armed robbery, embezzlement and corruption, etc. It is self-centeredness when a government officer embezzles the money that is meant to develop a whole community or state.
Beloved, my counsel is: make up your mind to live a selfless and impactful life.
Remember this: Selfishness is characterized by people loving only themselves and their money.

ASSIGNMENT:
1. Avoid the trap and plague of selfishness.
2. Ask God for the grace to be selfless in all your do.

PRAYER: Lord, I ask that You deliver me from selfishness or self-centeredness. I receive the grace to live a selfless and impactful life, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

TOPIC: CONNECTING GLORY AND DIRECTION BY WAITING ON GOD

SCRIPTURE: As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
Acts 13:2

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: When you wait on God, you are connected to divine direction.

Spending time with God has a lot of benefits for the Christian. You don’t lose when you wait on God by spending time with Him

In our study today, we shall consider two benefits of waiting on the LORD.

i. Waiting on the Lord is key to divine direction.
When you wait on God, you are connected to divine direction.

Maybe you are at a point in life where you have done all you knew how to do. May be you are that point when you don't know what next to do. What to do is to wait on God for direction.

In Acts 13:2, as the disciples waited on the Lord and prayed, the Holy Ghost said, “Separate unto me Barnabas and Saul for the work I have called them.”

You get direction and clarity when you wait on God. God shows you what to do and how to do it, when you wait on Him.

ii. Waiting on the Lord is key to the Glory.

The Lord deposits his Glory on us when we hang around Him. When you have stayed with God for a long time, by the time you step out, people would begin to notice a different dimension of glory on your life. This was what happened to Moses in Exodus 34:29.

And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.

Before this time, Moses had camped with God for 40 days. He stayed in the Presence of God to the point that a portion of God’s Glory left God and rested on him.

Beloved, when you stay with God, you contact His glory.

Remember this: When you wait on God, you are connected to divine direction.

ASSIGNMENT:

1. Be determined to access divine direction by waiting on God and spending time in His Presence.

2. Desire for a deposit of His righteousness and glory as you spend time in His Presence.

PRAYER: Lord, I receive the grace to tarry with You. I ask that you grant me access to divine direction and a deposit of Your Glory upon my life, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
