MORE NURSES ARE NEEDED IN GENERAL HOSPITALS AND PHCs IN ZAMFARA STATE
We sincerely appreciate His Excellency, Dr. Dauda Lawal, for his remarkable efforts in restoring and transforming Zamfara State. The ongoing total renovation of healthcare facilities across the state is a commendable step toward improving the health sector. We also acknowledge the recent employment of 60 volunteer nurses at the Specialist Hospital, Gusau.
However, we appeal to Your Excellency to consider employing more nurses in our various General Hospitals and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the state. This will complement your noble initiatives and address the shortage of qualified healthcare personnel, especially in rural areas such as Anka, Bukuyyum, Bakura, Maru, and others.
We admire the example set by your counterpart, His Excellency Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State, who employed all graduating nurses and midwives and deployed them to healthcare facilities across Sokoto State. Such an approach would greatly benefit Zamfara State as well.
Currently, in many hospitals, particularly in rural areas, the number of volunteer nurses exceeds that of fully employed staff. If these dedicated volunteer nurses are formally employed and given proper remuneration, their motivation and commitment to saving lives will undoubtedly increase.
We therefore propose that each nurse be deployed to their respective Local Government healthcare facilities immediately after graduation. This will help to bridge the staffing gap in General Hospitals and PHCs, ensuring the delivery of essential healthcare services to our communities.
Our prayers and best wishes remain with you, Your Excellency. We believe that, by the will of God, Zamfara State will achieve greatness and progress under your leadership.
