OUTCOME OF THE KANO STATE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON SATURDAY, 1ST NOVEMBER, 2025

Following the 33rd meeting of the Kano State Executive Council, presided over by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alh. Abba Kabir Yusuf, which was held on Saturday, 1st November, 2025, at the Council Chamber, Government House, Kano

The meeting deliberated on critical issues of governance and development affecting the State. After thorough consideration, a total of ₦19,019,114,578.50, was approved for the ex*****on of projects across various sectors of the State economy.

The breakdown of the approvals is as follows:

1. EDUCATION SECTOR

The Council approved a total of ₦4,931,962,184.11 for the ex*****on of key projects under the Ministry of Education and the Ministry for Higher Education. The breakdown includes:

₦308,957,001.00 for settlement of outstanding liabilities due to the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS).

₦206,015,629.64 for the purchase of two shops adjoining the Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso Women Skill Centre and the ex*****on of additional work at GGSS Jakara (Phase II).

₦1,495,723,188.96 for settlement of debts owed to boarding school feeding suppliers.

₦139,000,000.00 for payment of expenditure incurred in the production of instructional materials by Kano Printing Press.

₦2,541,630,723.11 for the renovation of Government Technical College, Ungogo (Phase II).

₦400,000,000.00 for the procurement of office furniture and fittings at Northwest University, Kano.

₦140,699,060.00 for accreditation exercises at Kano State Polytechnic.

₦270,906,642.40 for completion and furnishing of the E-Library at Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies (KASCEPS).

2. HEALTH SECTOR

To improve healthcare delivery, the Council approved ₦274,076,413.48 for the renovation and upgrade of health facilities, as follows:

₦109,369,665.14 for renovation and additional works at Tiga General Hospital.

₦164,706,748.34 for general renovation of Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital, Kofar Kudu, within the Emir’s Palace.

3. WATER RESOURCES SECTOR

A total of ₦3,338,290,683.52 was approved for projects under the Ministry of Water Resources, aimed at improving water supply and energy management:

₦670,455,779.12 for payment of KEDCO electricity bills for the State Water Board (covering three months).

₦1,752,800,000.00 for settlement of debts on diesel (AGO) and petrol (PMS) supply for water treatment plants and the Water Board Headquarters.

₦915,034,904.40 for construction of a Water Treatment Plant at Taliwaiwai, Rano Local Government Area.

4. WORKS AND INFRASTRUCTURE SECTOR

The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure received approvals totaling ₦9,854,326,460.92 for various road, flood control, and renovation projects across the State, including:

₦339,644,836.05 for installation of solar-powered streetlights at Kwankwasiyya City.

₦207,174,230.95 for construction of hydraulic structures along Kwanar Durba–Fammar–Konau–Kure Road in Kibiya Local Government (Phase II).

₦277,452,289.48 for renovation and construction works at Audu Bako Secretariat (Phase II).

₦393,334,675.71 for general renovation works at the Ministry of Works.

₦219,951,530.82 for construction of a dwarf fence and entrance gate at a plot adjacent to Gidan Fiat, Naibawa, Zaria Road.

₦2,633,028,973.31 for construction of Dambatta–Gwarabjawa Road in Dambatta Local Government.

₦810,824,310.98 for installation of road studs on selected roads within Kano Metropolis.

₦388,517,336.52 for flood control works at Baban Gwari Roundabout along Katsina Road.

₦185,430,198.66 for maintenance works along Karaye–Rogo Road (Damagari Phase II).

₦2,471,436,590.12 for supply and installation of 4-way intersection traffic lights across major roads in Kano State.

₦135,324,750.00 for supply and installation of all-in-one solar-powered streetlights at Ado Bayero Square, New Road, Sabon Gari and its environs.

5. POWER AND RENEWABLE ENERGY SECTOR

To enhance energy sustainability, the Council approved ₦979,889,993.56 under the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy for the following:

₦139,528,317.83 for supply and installation of alternative solar power systems at the Council Affairs Directorate.

₦840,361,675.73 for supply and installation of a 150KW solar power back-up system at Africa House, Government House.

6. OFFICE OF THE DEPUTY GOVERNOR

Council approved ₦149,293,520.24 for local expenditure in respect of the 2026 Hajj Operations Budget for the State Pilgrims Welfare Board.

7. OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY TO THE STATE GOVERNMENT

Approval was granted for ₦126,000,000.00 for the procurement of three Toyota Hilux vehicles for official engagements.

8. MINISTRY OF MINERAL RESOURCES

Council approved ₦586,512,000.00 for the construction of a weighbridge at Doguwa Local Government and at five major entry points to Kano State.

POLICY DECISIONS

The Council also deliberated on major policy matters and approved the following:

1. Construction of 50 low-cost houses across the 36 Local Government Areas outside the metropolis to provide affordable housing for low-income earners.

2. Acquisition of majority shares in KEDCO, aimed at achieving energy sufficiency, promoting economic inclusion, and creating a business-friendly environment that supports sustainable industrial growth in Kano and the entire region.

3. Presentation and adoption of the Kano State Electricity Policy under the State Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy.

RECOGNITIONS AND AWARDS

Council noted with pride the receipt of seven (7) national and international awards recently conferred on His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alh. Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his outstanding leadership and service to humanity. These include:

1. Gold Medal of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, the nation’s highest distinction, presented by His Excellency, President Umarou Sissoco Embaló.

2. Zamka Award 2025 for outstanding contribution and service to humanity by Zamfarawa Mazauna Kano.

3. Award of Excellence by the Nigeria Union of Public Service Secretarial Reportorial Data Processors and Allied Workers (National Headquarters).

4. Award of Corporate Partners of the Year by the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers.

5. Distinguished Governor Award for support to Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) and contributions to sports development.

6. Recognition Award for Distinguished Service by ANHI Consults International.

7. Award of Recognition as the 4th Best Performing State on Climate Governance in Nigeria (2025).
8. Award of honour as "Education Ambassador" by the Independent Newspaper Paper

The decisions and approvals made at this 33rd Executive Council Meeting clearly demonstrate the unwavering commitment of the administration of His Excellency, Alh. Abba Kabir Yusuf, towards advancing infrastructural development, promoting quality education, strengthening healthcare delivery, expanding access to clean water, and enhancing power generation and sustainable development across the State.

‎The President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, His Excellency Umarou Sissoco Embaló, has honoured Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, with the Gold Medal of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, the country’s highest national distinction.

‎In a statement issued by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the award was presented by the Honourable Minister of Defence of Guinea-Bissau, Mr. Donisio Cabi, on behalf of President Embaló during a ceremony held at Government House in Kano.

‎Governor Yusuf, while speaking during the 33rd Executive Council meeting held on Saturday at the Government House, Kano, expressed appreciation to President Embaló and the people of Guinea-Bissau for the honour bestowed upon him.

‎He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering educational cooperation and African solidarity as instruments for peace, progress, and shared prosperity.

‎According to the statement, the honour recognises Governor Yusuf’s exemplary leadership and commitment to African unity through education and human capital development.

‎Mr. Cabi described the Governor’s gesture of offering fifty scholarship slots to young students from Guinea-Bissau as a lifeline and a ray of hope for the youth of his country.

‎He noted that the Governor’s decision to look beyond borders and invest in the human capital of a sister African nation demonstrates vision, generosity, and true leadership, consistent with the ideals of the Kwankwasiyya philosophy empowerment, justice, and shared prosperity.

‎The statement added that Mr. Cabi recalled Kano’s long-standing role as a historic centre of trade, learning, and culture, linking West Africa through the Sahara and the Sahel.

‎He said the scholarship initiative symbolizes a bridge of knowledge, opportunity, and solidarity that strengthens the bond between Kano State and Guinea-Bissau.

‎Mr. Cabi explained that the award was approved by President Embaló in recognition of this exceptional act of friendship and strategic partnership.

‎The ceremony, attended by members of the State Executive Council and other dignitaries, marked a new chapter in the growing diplomatic and cultural ties between Kano State and the Republic of Guinea-Bissau.
