Section 1: Objective of the Act
What the law says:
The objective of this Act is to provide a unified fiscal legislation governing taxation in Nigeria.
What it means:
Before now, Nigeria had many tax laws scattered everywhere.
Company tax here.
Personal tax there.
VAT on its own.
Stamp duty doing solo work.
This law is simply saying:
βLetβs stop the confusion and put all tax rules in one place.β
What are the implications?
βπΌ You donβt need to jump from one tax law to another
βπΌ Fewer contradictions between tax rules
βπΌ Easier for government to enforce
βπΌ Harder for people to hide inside loopholes
Section 2: Application of the Act
What the law says:
This Act applies to anyone required to comply with tax laws, whether for themselves or for someone else.
What it means:
This law applies to: Individuals, Companies, Businesses, Trustees, Agents, Anyone handling money for another person.
In short, Once money is involved, this law can reach you.
It doesnβt matter if:
πYouβre big or small
πNigerian or foreign
πActing for yourself or for someone else
What are the implications?

βπΌ More people are clearly inside the tax net
βπΌ Responsibility is clearer for anyone handling income or money
