I came across a story today, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it.
I want to hear your honest opinion.
A man and his wife have five children.
For almost five years, the husband has searched for a job without success. He has knocked on countless doors, submitted applications everywhere, and attended interviews, but nothing ever works out.
Life becomes unbearable.
The family is evicted from their house because they cannot pay rent.
The children stop going to school because the fees remain unpaid.
Some days they eat once. Other days they survive on water and hope.
One afternoon, the husband receives a call from his rich uncle.
“My son, I’ve found you a good job. Come and see me.”
The husband rushes there, convinced God has finally answered his prayers.
When he arrives, the uncle smiles and says, “The job is yours. I only want one thing in return.”
The husband thanks him before even hearing the condition.
Then the uncle says something he never expected.
“I want to spend one night with your wife. Once she agrees, I’ll make sure you start work immediately.”
The husband feels the ground disappear beneath his feet.
He returns home in silence.
His wife keeps asking what happened until he finally tells her everything.
She says nothing.
She looks at her husband.
She looks at her five children sleeping on the floor.
She looks around their empty room.
Then she quietly asks herself one question.
“Is my dignity worth more than my children’s future?”
The husband refuses to let her even think about it.
He says, “I’d rather remain poor than sell the woman I vowed to protect.”
But hunger has a way of testing every conviction.
Days pass.
The children grow weaker.
The pressure grows heavier.
Now let me ask you.
If you were the wife, what would you do?
If you were the husband, would you accept the offer?
If you were one of their children and later found out what happened, how would you feel?
There are moments in life where every option comes with pain.
I don’t know the right answer.
I only know this story has stayed with me all day.
I’d like to read your thoughts. Please keep the discussion respectful.
