PRESS RELEASE

OYO STATE POLICE COMMAND ENHANCES INTELLIGENCE-LED OPERATIONS, ACHIEVES MAJOR SUCCESSES IN CRIME PREVENTION WITH RECENT ARREST OF DRIVER CARRYING ILLEGAL FI****MS

The Oyo State Police Command is excited to share the successful implementation of intelligence-driven stop and search operations throughout highways, primary roads, and essential intersections within the state. These efforts have yielded significant results, greatly increasing community safety and security.

On Thursday, September 18, 2025, at approximately 9:11 PM, a team from the Federal Highway Patrol conducted a stop and search at the Toll Gate on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ibadan. During this operation, a Toyota bus (registration number AFZ 933 XA) was stopped, and upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered several illegal items, including two locally-made single barrel fi****ms, two brand new short stainless steel machetes, and twenty live cartridges.

The driver was unable to provide a valid driver’s license or the necessary vehicle documentation at the time of the arrest and has been taken into custody along with the bus.

In addition, just one day prior, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, other successful operations led to the recovery of a white Toyota Camry (registration number L*D 957 JX) along the Ogbomoso-Iseyin Road, as well as a disturbing quantity of human flesh found in a suspect's hand luggage inside a white commercial bus (registration number XA 551 IRG). These incidents illustrate the effectiveness of our targeted strategies against vehicle theft and various illicit activities.

Oyo Acting Gov visits slain journalist’s family

Oyo State Acting Governor, Barr. Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, has paid a condolence visit to the family of Mr Ojo Peter, an online media journalist, who was killed by suspected armed robbers in Ibadan.
Barr. Lawal, who visited the wife and children of the deceased journalist in Ibadan, expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident that claimed the publisher's life.
The Acting Governor, who was accompanied by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Hon. Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola and the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Chapter, assured that the government would give its support to the family.
He equally rallied journalists in the state to stand by their late colleague’s family and help them to get out of the grief.
While addressing the family, the Acting Governor said: “At this juncture, I have to pray that the Lord will comfort and be with you.
“Ojo Peter was a professional and he left us at his prime, though he had the prospect to become a better person in life.
“As a government, we know the efforts he put into his work when he was still alive and we appreciate that. That is why we have a lot of his colleagues here to condole with the family.
“Whatever support that can be offered would be looked into and we will get back to the family.
“I also want to challenge all journalists here today to help this family to come out of grief quickly, and the way to do that is to stand by the family.”

Family To Welcome Baby Girl After 108 years of Having only Boys

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) - For more than 100 years, all the children born into one Texas family have been boys. Now, that streak is ending, and they couldn’t be happier.

Michael Sherman Jr., a Montgomery County firefighter, and his wife, Joacquia Sherman, were surrounded by generations of family Sunday when they found out they’re expecting a baby girl.

“I just feel honored that finally, we are the ones bringing the baby girl into the world – finally, after over 100 years. It’s amazing,” the expectant father said.

The gender reveal was a historic moment for the Sherman family, who say the last time a girl was born into the family was 108 years ago.
