BRIEFS FROM THE KOGI STATE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON THURSDAY, 6TH NOVEMBER, 2025, AT THE NEW EXCO HALL, GOVERNMENT HOUSE, LOKOJA

The Kogi State Executive Council met under the Chairmanship of the Executive Governor of the State, His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, on Thursday, 6th November, 2025, at the New EXCO Hall, Government House, Lokoja.

Below are highlights of the major decisions and deliberations from the meeting:

1. The Chairman of Council and Executive Governor, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, assured the people of Kogi State that his administration remains firmly in control of the security situation across the state. He reaffirmed that both residents and investors have nothing to fear, noting that the government is already winning the war against criminality.

2. The State Executive Council passed a resolution withdrawing the powers to issue consent approvals from land owners, transferring such authority exclusively to the Office of the Executive Governor of the State. By this resolution, all consent approvals previously issued by land owners are now invalid. Holders of such approvals have been given four (4) weeks to revalidate them at the Office of the Executive Governor of Kogi State. The State Government has discovered that most of the people parading consent approvals actually forged them, thereby constituting serious insecurity as we do not have their records. Revalidating such consent will afford the State Government the opportunity to properly profile those using our land, to stem insecurity.

3. The Governor directed all Commissioners and other members of the Executive Council to provide three (3) boreholes each within their respective Local Government Areas. He noted that the initiative is part of his administration’s broader effort to ensure the availability of potable water across the state.

4. The Council deliberated extensively on measures to improve road safety in Lokoja, particularly along the Felele axis. It consequently approved the restriction of articulated vehicles on Lokoja roads during daytime hours to reduce accidents. The Council also resolved to establish safer and more organized trailer parks within the state capital.

5. The Council approved the procurement and distribution of transformers across the three senatorial districts of the state. Governor Ododo reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving electricity supply as a key driver of economic growth and development.

6. The Executive Council approved the transmission of a Bill for the enactment of a State Tax Law to the Kogi State House of Assembly for consideration. The proposed law is aimed at strengthening the state’s revenue base and enhancing fiscal sustainability.

7. The Council considered the 2026 Draft Budget, presented by the Honourable Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Mukadam Asiwaju Asiru Idris, and titled “Budget of Shared Prosperity.” He highlighted that the state’s economic outlook remains promising, reflecting the administration’s determination to promote inclusive growth and shared development.

8. The Council warmly received former Commissioners who served between 2016 and 2024, led by Hon. Salisu Sani Ogu, former Commissioner for Youth and Sports. The former appointees commended the Governor for his inclusive approach to governance and pledged their continued support for the progress of Kogi State.

9. In his response, Governor Ododo thanked the former Commissioners for their solidarity and ongoing contributions to the state’s development. He emphasized that “we all belong to one big Kogi family” and assured that such joint sessions would become a regular feature to promote unity and a shared vision for sustainable development.

10. The Council received progress reports on ongoing township road projects and major infrastructure works in state-owned educational institutions across Kogi State. The Governor expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and charged contractors to maintain high standards and ensure timely completion.

Kingsley Femi Fanwo
Honourable Commissioner for Information and Communications

FEC Approves ₦43 Billion for Ilorin–Omu Aran–Egbe Road in Kwara State

As part of the latest nationwide infrastructure approvals, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has given the green light for the reconstruction of the Ilorin–Omu Aran–Egbe Road (Phase I), covering 31 kilometres out of the total 207 km stretch.

The ₦43 billion project is among the key contracts approved under the supervision of the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, who explained that the new design will adopt full concrete pavement for durability and long-term sustainability.

The Ilorin–Omu Aran–Egbe corridor serves as a major gateway linking Kwara South communities, including parts of Okun land, with the North and Southwest regions. The rehabilitation is expected to enhance transportation, reduce travel time, and boost economic activities along the route.

According to Umahi, the increase in project costs reflects improved design standards and the rising price of materials such as reinforcement steel, now exceeding ₦1.1 million per ton.

This project is critical for regional connectivity and will deliver value for money through the use of durable, concrete-based construction,” the Minister stated.

FG to Unveil National Railway Roadmap Connecting All 36 States, FCT

The Federal Government is set to unveil a comprehensive National Railway Development Roadmap aimed at connecting all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by rail.

This was disclosed by the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Mr. Kayode Opeifa, during the 7th National Transport Conference of the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration (C***A) held in Abuja.

According to Opeifa, the roadmap is designed to ensure that every state in Nigeria can access the national rail network at no additional cost, encouraging states to take advantage of existing and planned corridors.

He further explained that the roadmap aligns with the NRC’s long-term vision tagged “Vision 2-5-10-20”, which seeks to:

Optimize current rail operations within 2 years,

Transition to electric traction within 5 years,

Double network capacity within 10 years, and

Expand Nigeria’s rail network to 60,000 kilometers within 20 years.

The NRC boss emphasized that several states, including Lagos and Plateau, are already leveraging the national rail corridors to enhance their transportation systems.

The new roadmap, when fully implemented, is expected to boost trade, improve mobility, and stimulate economic development across the country.

OLL Warns Against Hijack of Kogi West 2027 Agenda, Cautions Traditional Rulers on Political Involvement

The Okun Liberation League (OLL) has issued a strong warning against what it described as attempts to hijack and personalize the agitation for power shift to Kogi West ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

In a statement released by the group, OLL cautioned traditional rulers in the state to steer clear of partisan politics, urging them to focus on encouraging their subjects to register and vote freely during elections.

The responsibility of our royal fathers in our politics is to encourage their subjects to register to vote, and to exercise their voting rights freely during elections no more, no less,” the group declared.

The group expressed concern that the genuine quest for Kogi West to produce the next governor of Kogi State was being narrowed to the ambition of Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, a distinguished son of Ijumuland.

According to OLL, reports suggesting that Faleke should be excluded from the 2027 gubernatorial contest due to his national assignments under President Bola Tinubu were misleading.

Nobody has published any record showing that Hon. Faleke has publicly withdrawn his interest in the Kogi 2027 race,” the group stated, emphasizing that the region has “an abundance of highly competent and experienced individuals capable of providing quality leadership beyond any single individual.

OLL further highlighted that Kogi West remains one of the most endowed regions in Nigeria, with diverse human capital spread across Kotonkarfe, Lokoja, Kabba-Bunu, Ijumu, Mopamuro, Yagba East, and Yagba West.

The group warned against political contractors allegedly working to extend what it called the “fourth term of the Yahaya Bello hegemony,” insisting that the people of Kogi West are united in their determination to occupy Lugard House in 2027.

Enough of the backwardness and stagnation which Kogi has witnessed under those who have turned our state into a political industry. There is no going back on the Kogi West push for 2027,” OLL concluded.

HRH Rotimi Dada Fails to Appear in Court — Cites Ill Health; Case Adjourned to November 12

The ongoing defamation case involving His Royal Highness, Rotimi Dada (Ajumobi), took a new turn today, November 4, 2025, as the monarch failed to appear before the court as earlier scheduled.

HRH Dada, who is standing trial for allegedly defam!ng and thr£aten!ng a member of the Egbe Security Committee, presented a medical report to the court, claiming he was indisposed and unable to attend the hearing.
In view of the medical report, the presiding judge adjourned the matter to November 12, 2025, granting the monarch additional time to recover and prepare for the continuation of the trial.

The controversy dates back to October 9, when HRH Rotimi Dada publicly disowned his estranged son, Jeremiah Dada, asserting that he divorced the boy’s mother fifteen years ago and had since maintained no relationship with him. Jeremiah was earlier remanded in prison for allegedly supplying hard drugs to band!ts.

Tensions heightened when a recorded conversation surfaced in which HRH Dada—popularly known as Ajumobi—was heard admitting that his son was involved in the sale of drugs.

In the recording, he reportedly said:
“You that smoke Indian h**p are arresting someone that is selling Indian h**p...”
The case has drawn significant public attention, with many observers calling for transparency and justice as the court prepares to reconvene on November 12, 2025.

Fresh Kidnapping on Egbe–Koro Road as Insecurity Deepens in Yagba West

Tension has once again gripped Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, as armed bandits reportedly k!dnapped four people yesterday along the Koro Road, a vital route linking Egbe in Kogi State with Koro in neighbouring Kwara State.

This incident comes barely days after another group of Yagba West residents were abducted on Oja Egbe Market Day while returning to Omi from Egbe, sparking renewed fears among locals who say the roads are no longer safe.

A source who spoke to Egbe Mekun Parrot under condition of anonymity confirmed suspicious movements have been noticed in the Oke-Ere and Koro Road axes, warning that the Egbe–Eruku stretch remains highly unsafe for travellers.

Residents are now urging security operatives to intensify patrols and surveillance in the area before the situation escalates further.
