*Kogi/Kwara Joint Security Forces Arrest 12 Suspected Kidnappers, 3 Informants; Rescue Victims*

In a major breakthrough against the rising wave of kidnappings in Okunland and beyond, a combined team of security operatives from Kogi and Kwara states have arrested 12 suspected kidnappers and 3 informants in a coordinated raid across border communities. The operation also led to the successful rescue of several kidnapped victims.

The crackdown followed the recent spate of abductions in the area, including the killing of a retired army officer from Odo‑Ape and the kidnap of a prominent farmer in Ponyan, Ijumu LGA. Acting on intelligence, security forces stormed the kidnappers’ hideouts and dismantled their camps.

The suspected informants identified as Babatunde Aledare, Dare Okegbe, and Lakutu Omobab‑Ajelesimi, all from Ayetoro Kiri allegedly worked with the kidnappers by tipping them off about potential targets and supplying food, fuel, and other logistics to sustain the criminals in the forest.

A statement from the Kogi State Government revealed that the syndicate relied heavily on a network of local collaborators, including bread and water vendors, motorcycle couriers, filling stations selling petrol in jerrycans, and even some wood contractors and traditional rulers who reportedly allocated land for use as criminal hideouts.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, while commending the security agencies for their swift action, vowed that the government would prosecute all those involved including community collaborators to serve as a deterrent.

“No one will be spared whether you’re a vendor, transporter, or to traditional authority if you aid or abet these criminals. We urge our people to report suspicious activities and cooperate with security agencies,” the statement read.

The rescued victims, including the farmer abducted in Ponyan and others from Kiri in Kabba/Bunu, have since been reunited with their families.

Governor Ododo also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, and all federal security agencies for their support in securing lives and property in Kogi State.

Okun Media Hub calls on residents of Okunland and surrounding areas to remain vigilant, avoid aiding criminal elements in any way, and report any suspicious persons or movements to security operatives immediately.

We will continue to monitor developments on this story as more suspects are being tracked and brought to justice.

Ijumu Council Chairman Apprehends Four Armed Men Disguised as Civilian Task Force in Ilughagba Community.

In a usual proactive move to strengthen local security, the Executive Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna, on Monday led a coordinated security operation to Ilughagba Community, accompanied by a joint task force comprising personnel from the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, and local vigilante groups.

During the operation, four armed individuals dressed in uniforms labeled Civilian Task Force were apprehended. The suspects, who claimed to be from Katsina State, admitted to being invited by the Hausa Community Chairman, Mr. Aminu, in a bid to integrate them into the Mangal security outfit operating in the area.
Upon their arrest, security operatives recovered four locally made revolver rifles and several rounds of live ammunition from the suspects. The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that the individuals had no official documentation or prior notification of their activities within the state.

The suspects, along with the Hausa Community Chairman who facilitated their arrival, are currently in custody and undergoing thorough interrogation.

Chairman Haruna expressed deep concern over the incident, warning that his administration will not tolerate any form of unauthorized armed infiltration or security breaches. He emphasized the importance of due process and lawful coordination in all security partnerships, stressing that all security outfits must be properly profiled, approved, and accountable.

He further reiterated the government’s commitment to sanitizing markets and public spaces across Ijumu, ensuring they remain safe, clean, and law-abiding.

The Executive Chairman urged residents to remain vigilant, support ongoing efforts by security agencies, and promptly report any suspicious movements or persons within their communities.

*Braimoh Urges Kogi Govt to Reconstruct Edumo-Okeoffin-Ayede-Olla-Iluke Road*

The gubernatorial candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) in the 2023 Kogi State election, Otunba Olayinka Braimoh, has decried the poor condition of the Edumo-Okeoffin-Ayede-Olla-Iluke Road in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, calling on the state government to prioritize its reconstruction.

Speaking at the centenary birthday and 64th coronation anniversary of the Olubunu of Bunu Kingdom, Oba Joseph Adebayo Ikusemoro, Braimoh lamented the dilapidated state of roads across Bunuland, describing it as a major hindrance to development.

> “Besides, this situation is one of the remote causes of the banditry and insecurity that are rampant in the area. The urgent repair of these roads — especially the Edumo-Okeoffin-Ayede-Olla-Iluke Road — should be the government’s first priority,” he said.

Braimoh urged political appointees from Bunu to leverage their proximity to the state governor to facilitate the road’s rehabilitation, noting that good infrastructure remains key to the region’s progress.

He also called on sons and daughters of Bunuland to unite and work collectively for the sustainable development of their homeland.

On the sidelines of the event, Braimoh congratulated the Olubunu on his remarkable 100th birthday and 64th year on the throne, commending his leadership and dedication to the growth of the kingdom.

Braimoh, who hails from Akutupa Kiri in Bunu and served as chairman of the event’s contact and mobilization committee, reiterated his commitment to the advancement of Okunland through advocacy and community service.

Okun Media Hub — July 21, 2025

The Nigerian Senate has described as fake news viral reports claiming it has approved the creation of 29 or 31 new states.

In a statement on Monday, the Senate clarified that no state has been created yet, stressing that the lists circulating online are misleading and based only on proposals under review.

The Senate reiterated that creating a state requires a constitutional process involving:
- Two-thirds approval in both chambers of the National Assembly
- Endorsement by two-thirds of State Assemblies
- A referendum in the affected areas
- Presidential assent

None of these steps has been completed.

The Senate urged Nigerians to disregard unverified claims and rely on credible information. Okun Media Hub will continue to monitor and report verified updates.

*Why an Orange a Day Could Keep the Doctor Away*

Okun Media Hub — July 21, 2025

Oranges, long regarded as one of nature’s sweetest and most refreshing fruits, continue to prove their worth beyond taste as research highlights their impressive health benefits. Experts say adding oranges to your daily diet is a simple yet powerful way to improve your overall wellbeing.

Health specialists describe oranges as a “nutrient-packed powerhouse,” loaded with vitamins, fiber, and antioxidants. One of the most celebrated benefits of oranges is their high vitamin C content, which strengthens the immune system, speeds up wound healing, and protects the body’s cells from damage caused by free radicals.

In addition to boosting immunity, oranges also support heart health. Their rich supply of potassium helps regulate blood pressure, while natural compounds known as flavonoids have been linked to reduced cholesterol levels and better blood circulation.

Nutritionists point out that oranges can improve skin health by aiding collagen production, which keeps the skin firm and youthful. They also promote good digestion, thanks to their high fiber content, which prevents constipation and keeps the digestive system healthy.

Despite their sweetness, oranges are also considered a diabetes-friendly fruit when eaten in moderation, as their fiber slows down the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream.

Oranges are about 85% water, making them a great fruit for hydration, especially in hot weather. Studies also suggest that regular consumption of oranges may lower the risk of some chronic diseases, including certain types of cancer, kidney stones, and stroke.

For people who feel fatigued, nutrition experts recommend oranges as a healthy, natural energy booster. They also contribute to eye health, thanks to their vitamin A and antioxidants.

“Oranges are affordable, widely available, and incredibly beneficial to the body. Eating one or two daily is a habit worth cultivating,” said a nutritionist interviewed by Okun Media Hub.

So next time you reach for a snack, remember: a simple orange could be one of the healthiest choices you make all day.
