IJUMU LGA RESPONDS TO THE SCORECARD CHALLENGE — ONE YEAR OF RESTORED PEACE, SECURITY, AND DEVELOPMENT UNDER ALHAJI IBRAHIM HARUNA
(Series: WHERE IS THE SCORECARD? We Question Local Governments in Okunland)
In response to the ongoing accountability call “WHERE IS THE SCORECARD?” the Executive Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna, has presented the achievements of his administration, highlighting one year of remarkable progress in restoring peace, safety, and grassroots development across the local government.
Before his administration took office, insecurity had taken a dangerous turn in Ijumu. Farmers had abandoned their farmlands due to constant attacks, while herders dominated the local economy, controlling major agricultural produce. This situation led to rising poverty levels and a deep sense of helplessness among the people.
During his campaign, Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna made a bold promise to confront insecurity head-on and restore peace to every part of Ijumu within his first year in office. True to his word, he wasted no time after assuming duty. He dedicated his security vote and other available funds to addressing the challenge, demonstrating not just political will but a genuine concern for the welfare of his people.
One of his earliest and most decisive actions was the closure of the Zango Market along Iyara road, which had become a hub for criminal activities. He also coordinated extensive forest operations to flush out criminal elements that had made the area unsafe. Working closely with security agencies, traditional rulers, and local vigilantes, the Chairman ensured that every community was properly secured.
Today, Ijumu stands as a reference point for security success stories in Kogi State. For nine consecutive months, there has been no recorded case of insecurity. The once-troubled communities are now peaceful, farmers have returned to their farms, and local markets are once again thriving with Ijumu people taking full control of their economy.

Security has become the foundation upon which other developmental strides in Ijumu are being built. Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna’s administration has shown that meaningful progress begins with the protection of lives and property. With peace now firmly in place, the local government is set to expand its focus into other critical sectors of growth and development.
The people of Ijumu, filled with renewed confidence, appreciate the Chairman’s commitment to their safety and wellbeing. Reports from the DSS and Nigeria Police Force affirm the positive transformation that has taken place under his leadership.
