Olubadan: Oba Olakulehin is alive and well — Oyo Government

Amid circulating reports of the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Oyo State Government has dismissed the claims, confirming that the monarch is alive and in good health.

The Oyo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Wasiu Olatunbosun, reassured the public, stating, "Yes, Olubadan is alive, hale, and hearty. I spoke with one of his sons, Prince Olaseke Owolabi Olakulehin, who represented the family at the coronation committee."

Similarly, Gbenga Ayoade, Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan, affirmed that the monarch remains in good health. He noted that he left the palace around 8 PM without any signs of crisis and later confirmed with palace sources that the king was "hale and healthy."

Dismissing speculations that Oba Olakulehin had been flown out of Ibadan for medical treatment, Ayoade stated, "Baba is still in Ibadan. He was not flown anywhere. He is doing very fine."

Oba Olakulehin, born July 5, 1935, was officially presented his staff of office by Governor Seyi Makinde on July 12, 2024, following the passing of the 42nd Olubadan, Oba Moshood Olalekan Balogun, Alli Okumade II, who died on March 14, 2024, at the age of 81.
