*How JAMB Scores You (And How to Beat the System)*
Today, we’re tackling a BIG question many of you have been asking — *How does JAMB actually mark your exam?* 🤔
Don’t worry, we’re breaking it down in a simple, clear, and student-friendly way. By the time you finish reading, you’ll know exactly how those JAMB scores are calculated.
📚 *FIRST THINGS FIRST: SUBJECT COMBO MATTERS!*
In JAMB, every candidate must register for 4 subjects. But wait — this is not the time to pick your favourite subjects like snacks 😅.
Your subject combo MUST match the requirements for your dream course.
👉 For example, if you're planning to study Medicine, you’ll likely be registering for:
✅ Use of English (compulsory)
✅ Biology
✅ Chemistry
✅ Physics
So before you make any choices, check the correct combination for your course. Picking the wrong combo can cost you admission!
🧠 *STUDY SMART, NOT JUST HARD*
No matter your dream course, one thing is the same for everyone — you’ve got to PREPARE like a champ!
JAMB isn’t something you just “try your luck” with — it takes planning and proper study. Let’s now look at how your exam will be marked.
🔍 *HOW MANY QUESTIONS WILL YOU ANSWER?*
In total, you’ll answer 180 questions in 2 hours.
Here’s the breakdown:
📘 Use of English – 60 questions
📘 Each of the other 3 subjects – 40 questions each
That’s: 60 + 40 + 40 + 40 = 180 questions.
🏆 *WHAT’S THE HIGHEST SCORE YOU CAN GET?*
The maximum score is *400*.
✅ No negative marking in JAMB!
So even if you miss some questions, you won’t lose marks — you just won’t gain for the wrong answers.
✍️ *HOW ARE MARKS SHARED?*
Here’s where it gets interesting — not all questions carry the same marks.
📘 *Use of English (60 questions):*
Different sections = different marks:
📍Comprehension Passage – 3 marks each
📍Cloze Passage – 2 marks each
📍Recommended Novel – 1 mark each
📍Sentence Interpretation & Antonyms – 2 marks
📍Synonyms & Sentence Completion – 1 mark
📗 *Other 3 Subjects (40 questions each):*
Each question = 2.5 marks
So, each subject = 100 marks
📊 In total: ✅ English = 100
✅ Subject 2 = 100
✅ Subject 3 = 100
✅ Subject 4 = 100
*Grand Total = 400 marks*
💡 *FINAL ADVICE:*
All subjects are equally important — JAMB doesn’t play favourites.
So don’t focus on one and neglect the others. Whether it’s Physics, Government, Literature or Biology — study all four like they’re your ticket to university (because they are 😎).
Best of luck JAMBITES ☘️
