Nigeria’s Super Eagles put on a brilliant performance today against Mozambique, securing a 4-0 victory. Since the arrival of the new coach, there’s been a noticeable transformation in our playing style, more fluid, more composed and more purposeful. I truly respect what the coach is doing with the team. The Super Eagles now play with ease, confidence and good coordination. Kudos to him.
That said, I noticed a few things during the match that I’d like to point out and get your opinion on, especially concerning Lookman, Akor, Onyeka, and Osimhen.
Lookman, no doubt, is a talented player, but his reluctance to release the ball when he gets into the box is becoming too frequent. Out of 100%, I’d say about 80% of the time he holds on too long and only 20% does he pass to a teammate in a better position. That needs to improve, especially in team play.
Akor shows similar traits, but not as much as Lookman. He plays with a lot of intent and is always looking forward, which is great.
Onyeka’s case seems different. I’m not sure if he’s out of form or just not finding his rhythm, especially as he often comes in during the second half. His performance today didn’t quite match up with the rest of the team.
As for Osimhen, I’d encourage him to stay calm. I know tensions can rise, especially when teammates don’t pass the ball in clear goal scoring situations, but walking off before the end of the match isn’t the right message. I don’t think the coach intended to sub him at that moment, but we need unity and focus at this stage and I like the sub.
Overall, the team did exceptionally well. But harmony, teamwork, and selflessness are key as we prepare for tougher challenges ahead.
