EFCC Arraigns Ibadan Man Over Alleged N13.7m Property Fraud, ‘Sold House Entrusted to Him in ibadan.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a man, Yusuf Ademola Oyepeju, over an alleged N13.7 million property fraud involving a Dubai-based Nigerian Islamic cleric, Fasasi Amidu Bayonle.

Oyepeju was arraigned alongside two companies allegedly linked to him — Alwajeez International Nigeria Limited and AIN Homes and Property Limited — before Justice Olusola Adetujoye of the Oyo State High Court, Ibadan.

According to the EFCC, the defendant faces a six-count charge bordering on forgery, uttering of documents, stealing by conversion and obtaining money under false pretence, involving a total sum of N13,697,900. One of the charges specifically alleges that Oyepeju converted N8,697,900 belonging to Bayonle to his personal use.

The commission alleged that the two men met through a WhatsApp group created for Muslims and the propagation of Islamic teachings, where both reportedly served as tutors.

The EFCC said Oyepeju initially sought financial assistance from Bayonle in 2018 to secure accommodation for himself and his newly married wife in Ibadan.

According to the prosecution, Bayonle instead allowed Oyepeju to temporarily occupy his unoccupied house at Ikumapayi, Olodo, Ibadan, while he worked towards raising money for accommodation.

The defendant, who allegedly presented himself as a property developer, was later accused of persuading Bayonle to send him N8.69 million to purchase land and develop another property for him in Ibadan.

The EFCC further alleged that investigations revealed that Oyepeju subsequently forged a Transfer of Agreement document, purportedly involving the property, and allegedly transferred or sold the house he had been allowed to occupy temporarily to companies linked to him before converting the proceeds for his personal use.

Oyepeju pleaded not guilty to all the charges. Following his plea, EFCC counsel, Sanusi Galadanchi, requested a date for trial and asked the court to remand him in custody, while his counsel, B. Ajibola, informed the court that a bail application had already been filed.

Justice Adetujoye subsequently adjourned the case for the hearing of the bail application and ordered that Oyepeju be remanded at the Agodi Correctional Centre, Ibadan.

The allegations remain before the court, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Oyo Police Bust International Car Theft Syndicate, Recover Stolen Lexus SUV

What looked like an ordinary stolen-vehicle case has uncovered an alleged transnational criminal network trafficking exotic cars across Nigeria’s borders!

The Oyo Police VCRU has arrested two suspects after intercepting a stolen 2017 Lexus RX 350 SUV on the Ibadan–Ilorin Expressway at about 4:00am.

According to the police, the suspects allegedly received the SUV after it was stolen from a woman at gunpoint in Ilorin, and were taking it towards the border for onward sale abroad.

😱 But that’s not all! Police recovered 4 HP laptops, an iPhone 15 Pro Max, 7 wristwatches and jewellery from the vehicle.
One suspect reportedly sustained a gunshot injury to the foot during the chase, while police say investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the syndicate.

🔥 This is bigger than a car theft case!
How many more stolen vehicles have crossed Nigeria’s borders through this kind of network?

ORANYAN MARKET FIRE: OYO ACTING GOVERNOR VISITS VICTIMS, PROMISES GOVERNMENT SUPPORT

The aftermath of the devastating fire that razed the Jankara Iso Arobo Market in Oranyan, Ibadan, has left traders counting their losses after goods, shops and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed. The fire reportedly started around 10:00 p.m. on Sunday and lasted into the early hours of Monday.
Thankfully, no life was lost.

Oyo State Acting Governor, Barrister Abdulraheem Adebayo Lawal, on Monday visited the affected market to see the destruction firsthand and sympathise with the traders. Accompanied by government officials, NEMA and SEMA representatives, the Acting Governor described the level of destruction as massive and assured victims that the government would not abandon them.

Lawal said the government would work with the Babaloja-General of Oyo State, Alhaji Yekeen Abbas, and market leaders to establish the exact number of affected traders and stalls. According to him, the data will help the state government make appropriate recommendations and secure necessary support from both the state and federal governments.

For the affected traders, the biggest question now is how soon help will arrive and how much support they will receive to rebuild their businesses. As government begins its assessment, many are hoping this tragedy will mark the beginning of a major intervention rather than the end of their livelihoods. What do you think the government should do first—provide financial compensation, rebuild the market, or improve fire prevention measures?
