𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚: 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗞𝗼𝗴𝗶 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹, 𝗞𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗩𝗜𝗰𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗹, 𝗦𝗶𝘅-𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿-𝗢𝗹𝗱, 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗢𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿

Bandits have invaded Government Secondary School, Iluke Bunu in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing three persons, including a vice principal and a 6-year-old child.

The attack, which occurred at about 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, threw the community into mourning and heightened concerns over security in the area.

Confirming the incident in a statement issued by its spokesperson, ASP Saliu Afusat, the Kogi State Police Command said a large number of armed bandits, operating on about 40 motorcycles, invaded the school with the suspected intention of abducting students and other residents.

The statement said the Divisional Police Officer of Kabba ‘A’ Division immediately mobilised a joint security response after receiving distress calls, deploying personnel from the police division, the Police Mobile Force, and tactical teams.

The Command, however, confirmed that three persons were killed during the attack.

“They include Mr Ganiyu Anifowose, the Vice Principal of UBE Secondary/Primary School, Iluke; Mr Sunday Jacob Alhassan, aged 70 years; and Sunday Ayele, aged six years.”

The police said one of the attackers was neutralised during the exchange of gunfire, while a member of the joint security team sustained gunshot injuries and is currently receiving treatment.

The Commissioner of Police has ordered sustained bush-combing operations and confidence-building patrols in the affected area. According to the Command, joint security operatives are still conducting intensive operations to apprehend fleeing suspects and prevent further attacks.

Members of the public were urged to remain calm and assist security agencies with credible information.

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have rescued Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12 year old twin sons, Peter and Paul, alive during a late-night rescue operation carried out around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026.

Two suspected kidnappers were neutralised in a gun duel with police operatives, while two fi****ms were recovered from the gang.

The victims, including the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, were abducted around 7:30 a.m. on June 3, 2026, while on their way to drop the children at school.

Police sources disclosed that sustained intelligence tracking and tactical pressure forced the kidnappers into a confrontation with operatives, leading to the successful rescue of the victims.

Security operatives are currently combing nearby areas for fleeing members of the kidnapping syndicate, some of whom are believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds.

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), in collaboration with forest guards, have intercepted a consignment of medical supplies allegedly meant for fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the supplies were intercepted on Friday during a coordinated operation in Kaga LGA of the state.

Makama, citing security sources, said the operation targeted a suspected supply route used by insurgent logistics networks operating within and around forested areas in Borno.

The publication said the interception was part of ongoing efforts to disrupt insurgent logistics networks and prevent the movement of medical and material support to remote terrorist enclaves.

𝗠𝗙𝗠 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗩𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗹𝘀, 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝗼 𝟴𝗽𝗺 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲

The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries has directed all its branches nationwide to conclude church programmes by 8:00 pm and suspend vigils and overnight meetings until further notice, citing rising security concerns across the country.

The directive was contained in an internal memo dated June 5, 2026, and signed by the Director of Administration at the church’s international headquarters in Lagos.

The church said the decision was taken in the interest of the safety and well-being of its members amid prevailing security challenges in the country.

According to the memo, all services, meetings and other church activities must henceforth end not later than 8:00 pm.

It also stated that vigils and overnight prayer programmes were suspended until further notice.

“Where necessary, vigils may be converted to evening prayer programmes and must be concluded on or before 8:00 p.m,” the statement read.

The church stressed that the measures were precautionary and mandatory for all levels of the ministry.

The Federation of International Football Associations has announced a new pre-match ceremony format for the 2026 World Cup that will involve all players named in a matchday squad rather than only the starting line-ups.

The new format marks a departure from the traditional World Cup pre-match routine, where only the starting 11 players from each team line up near the centre of the pitch before kick-off.

Under the arrangement, every player in both teams’ matchday squads will walk onto the pitch through a dedicated arch alongside youth escorts before assembling around the centre circle for the national anthems.

FIFA said large national flag banners will also be displayed on either side of the pitch during the ceremony.

“The FIFA World Cup is about every player and every fan, and this new pre-match ceremony reflects that,” FIFA President Gianni Infantino said in a statement on Thursday.

He added that having all players and referees face one another during the national anthems would create “a moment of unity, pride and emotion.”

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.

The tournament will also be the first World Cup to feature 48 teams, an expansion from the previous 32-team format.

Rema, Burna Boy, and Davido have all been confirmed to perform at various high-profile events at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking a historic moment for Nigerian music on the global stage

In a series of announcements, FIFA revealed that Burna Boy will perform at the tournament’s opening ceremony in Mexico City, while Rema will take the stage at the opening ceremony in Los Angeles. Davido, meanwhile, is set to headline the World Cup countdown concert series, also in Los Angeles.

The opening ceremony at the Mexico City Stadium on July 11 will see Burna Boy perform the collaborative track ‘Dai Dai’ with Colombian superstar Shakira for the first time.

Shakira and Burna Boy will join a star-studded lineup on the global stage at the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony in Mexico city,” the governing body’s Instagram post reads.

Rema is set to perform at the tournament’s opening ceremony in Los Angeles alongside American rapper Future, Katy Perry, Anitta, South African sensation Tyla, and LISA.

FIFA blog post further listed other performers, including Mexican artistes Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, and Maná.

Others include Venezuelan singer Danny Ocean, Colombian singer J Balvin, and South African singer Tyla.

Supporters attending the 2026 FIFA World Cup will have to adjust to a stricter set of stadium regulations, with football’s governing body introducing new measures aimed at improving safety and matchday experience across tournament venues.

Among the items prohibited inside stadiums are vuvuzelas, air horns, whistles and other devices capable of generating excessive noise. The restrictions will apply at all venues hosting matches in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The decision means the iconic vuvuzela, which became synonymous with the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, will not be heard during this year’s tournament. The plastic horn gained worldwide recognition during the competition but also sparked debate among fans and broadcasters because of its persistent buzzing sound.

FIFA has also expanded its list of banned items to include laser pointers and similar devices that could interfere with players, officials or spectators.

The regulations extend beyond objects brought into venues. Fans are expected to comply with standards relating to public conduct and attire, with tournament organisers warning against behaviour considered disruptive or inappropriate.
