Alleged Brutality in Lagos: NURTW Official Arrested for Beating Dispatch Rider to Death
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Shamsideen Adio, a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), for allegedly beating a dispatch rider to death on Tapa Street, Lagos Island.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday following a scuffle between Adio and the rider, allegedly over a minor vehicle scratch. Eyewitnesses claim Adio, along with his colleagues, violently attacked the rider, leading to his death.
Journalist Chris Nwandu, who shared video evidence on Facebook, described Adio as a “notorious figure” in the area, known for violently assaulting road users, including Marwa (tricycle) operators.
This tragic incident has reignited public concern over unchecked violence and abuse of power by some NURTW members in Lagos.
