Not ₦1bn, Not Sharia: Ogbomoso Principal Exposes Kidnappers’ Actual Demand

The Ogbomoso kidnapping has taken a new turn after a fresh video emerged from captivity. In the video, the abducted school principal dismissed several claims circulating online about the kidnappers' demands.

According to the principal, reports alleging that the abductors demanded the implementation of Sharia law, a ₦1 billion ransom, and Hilux vehicles are false. Instead, she stated that the kidnappers made only one demand. They reportedly want some of their associates released from Agodi Prison in Ibadan.

Ogbomoso Kidnapping: Principal Debunks Viral Claims

The principal, identified as Mrs. Alamu, appeared in a newly released video after spending more than three weeks in captivity.

She said the abductors showed them online reports containing demands attributed to the kidnappers. However, she insisted those reports were inaccurate and misleading.

Her latest statement directly contradicts widespread reports that the criminals requested a huge ransom payment, weapons, and religious concessions.

Furthermore, she appealed to the public to avoid spreading unverified information that could complicate ongoing efforts to secure their freedom.

What We Know About The Ogbomoso Kidnapping

The victims were abducted during coordinated attacks on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Gunmen reportedly stormed the schools and kidnapped dozens of pupils and teachers. Two persons were killed during the attack. The victims were later moved into forest areas around the Old Oyo National Park.

Since then, several videos have emerged showing the captives pleading for government intervention. The principal and other teachers repeatedly urged authorities to negotiate for their release.

Growing Pressure On Authorities

Meanwhile, residents of Ibadan and Ogbomoso have staged protests demanding the rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers.

Civil society groups, teachers, and concerned citizens have called on the government to intensify rescue efforts. Protesters carried placards bearing messages such as β€œBring Back Our Children” and β€œ47 Abducted.”

In addition, security agencies have reportedly arrested several suspects and informants linked to the kidnapping network. However, authorities say efforts are still ongoing to rescue the remaining victims safely.

Ogbomoso Kidnapping: Fresh Questions Emerge

The latest video has raised fresh questions about the true motives of the abductors.

While previous reports focused on ransom and political demands, the principal's account presents a different narrative. As investigations continue, attention is now shifting toward the alleged demand for the release of inmates from Agodi Prison.

For now, families of the victims continue to wait anxiously for positive news and the safe return of their loved ones.
