I could hear it right from my room.

This morning, I woke up with ginger. I was ready to finish my chores early and finally rest by noon.

But it didn’t go the way I planned. Just as I was about to get up from bed, I heard a voice say:

“Procrastination is a silent thief.”

Turns out it was my neighbour playing a speech (don’t ask me who the speaker was, I couldn’t place the voice 😂). But I stopped to listen.

And honestly, I’m glad I did. Because the man said something that hit me.

He said: beating procrastination isn’t about intensity, it’s about CONSISTENCY.

👉 Write for 5 minutes.
👉 Read for 2 minutes.
👉 Take those small steps every day.

Before you know it, your brain gets wired to continue—and a habit is formed.

He also mentioned something I won’t forget:

The key to excellence is your environment. Not moving to another city, but:

– Cutting off toxic friends

– Unfollowing people that don’t align

– Feeding your mind with the kind of person you want to become

By the time the speech ended (almost an hour later o), my whole mood had changed. I was excited and happy.

You see, life isn’t always about running marathons. Sometimes it’s just about doing the little things now.

And yes, you’ll fail once in a while. But the trick is to get back up. Always.

Yesterday ehn, I sat down to write but guess what?

Instead of writing, I started arranging my table, clearing tabs, checking WhatsApp status… basically everything except the actual work 😂.

And I noticed something—writing is not always the problem. Sometimes the wahala is just getting myself to start.

For me, it’s distraction. For you, it might be something else. So tell me, what’s that one thing that always gets in your way when you sit down to write?

Free Tools Every Content Writer Needs (Beginner or Not)

1. Grammarly

Listen, no matter how good you think you are, you’ll still make mistakes. Grammarly will point out grammar slips, spelling errors, and even suggest better words. I don’t always take all the suggestions, but it helps me keep my work clean.

2. Hemingway Editor

Sometimes you write and the thing looks like a PhD thesis. This tool simplifies your writing, highlights where you’re wordy, and makes your content easy to read. And trust me, readers love simple.

3. Google Docs

If you’re still writing only on MS Word, you’re missing out. Google Docs makes life easy—you can write from anywhere, share links directly with clients, and even collaborate in real time. Plus, it saves automatically (lifesaver).

4. Canva
Content isn’t just words. Sometimes you need graphics, carousels, or even a flyer. Canva helps you design all that without being a professional designer. Free templates, drag and drop… boom, you’re done.

5. AnswerThePublic

Ever sat staring at your screen not knowing what to write? This tool is gold. Just type in a keyword and it shows you real questions people are asking online. Instant content ideas.

6. Google Analytics

This is where you move from just writing to being strategic. Google Analytics shows you who’s reading your stuff, where they came from, and what posts are getting the most love. That way, you know what’s working and what to improve.

All these tools are free. Use them well and watch your content writing game level up.

I don’t like Leonardo da Vinci’s paintings.

Yes, I know he’s one of the greatest painters in history, but the "Mona Lisa" doesn’t move me at all.

The Last Supper? I can stomach that one. But overall, his work doesn’t do it for me.

Surprised? You probably are.

But that’s the thing about art and creativity.

As a creative—whether you’re a writer, designer, or whatever space you’re in—your work will not please everybody.

Some will admire it and call it a masterpiece. Others won’t rate it at all. And both groups are valid.

Even those who love your work might not think it’s the best. And when the criticism comes (because it will), it’ll come in two ways:

1. Those who know how to offer constructive feedback.
2. Those who lack tact and will hurt you with their words.

Truth is, even constructive criticism can sting. But as a creative, you must learn to handle it. If the feedback will help you grow, take it. If not, let it go.

Develop thick skin and an open mind. That’s how you’ll keep creating and improving.

Depression and creatives are like 5 and 6.
The pressure to always churn out something awesome and our uncompromising standards can really strain us.

But don’t feel like you’re alone. Most of us deal with it once in a while. And when it comes, don’t sit in fear or shame—see it as part of the growing pains.

Because when it clears, you’ll emerge stronger and even better at your craft.

P.S it's not my photo.

If there’s any book I’d recommend to a writer right now, it’s The Wheel of Time.

Yes, it’s fictional (and I know some people don’t take fiction seriously), but trust me—if you want to see creativity, go for "The Wheel of Time."

What blows me away is the writer’s ability to create an entirely different world, fill it with characters that don’t exist, and then—my God—the plot twists! Tiny details you overlooked in the beginning suddenly come together almost 3,000 pages later.

It’s one thing to write based on research (factual things you already know), but it’s another thing entirely to imagine a whole universe and bring it to life.

That’s exactly what the author of The Wheel of Time did.

I can’t even remember his name right now—but if you want to see a masterpiece in the writing world, read it.

P.S. There’s also a movie version with the same name.

Let’s talk about KEYWORDS.

Keywords are simply the words your audience types into Google when they’re looking for something.

That’s it.

For example, imagine a girl searching for “knotless braider in Ibadan.”

Guess what?

Even a less skilled braider will pop up on her screen if they used that keyword properly on their website or page.

That’s the power of keywords—they make you findable. And that’s a huge part of SEO.

If you want clients to discover you, you must know the words they use when searching for your service and place them where it matters.

SEO isn’t magic. It’s understanding your audience and speaking their language.

Don’t let AI do your job.

See, today is Monday and I’m here again with some uncomfortable advice. It’s not about big grammar or fancy endings. I’ll tell you for free—almost anybody can copy information (and who cares about that?).

What really matters is your ability to think and bring a masterpiece to life. Every time you hand over that job fully to AI, you lose a huge part of your creativity.

So, what should you do?

I’m not saying don’t use AI.

Use it—but wisely.

For example, when I write my posts myself, I bring them here to ChatGPT to touch up grammar, punctuation, and flow.

My creativity? intact

My content? top tier

That’s how you use AI.

So today, make the decision to reduce your dependency on AI this week.

What do you think?

Finding writing gigs has to be the hardest part of content writing for me—mostly because I’m picky with clients.

But maybe it’s not the same for you. So tell me, what’s the hardest part of being a content writer for you?

A) Finding writing gigs
B) Staying consistent with writing
C) Figuring out what to write

I'm all ears!

P.S the photo attached is AI-generated. How'd I do?

These SEO practices don’t matter to Google (at least not the way you think):

1️⃣ Content length

Google doesn’t care how long or short your post is. What matters is value. Longer content usually gives more depth, that’s why it seems like an SEO hack.

2️⃣ Keyword in domain/URL

Nope. This won’t automatically make you rank better. It’s fine if you do it, but don’t expect magic.

3️⃣ Duplicate content

Google won’t penalise you for having the same content linked in many places. Traffic may drop, yes, but you won’t get punished. (Still, fix it).

4️⃣ Heading arrangement

Headings help readers, not Google. If your content is useful, it’ll still rank—even if your H2 and H3 are all over the place.

5️⃣ E-E-A-T is a ranking factor

It’s not. If it were, explain how my finance and cybersecurity blogs hit Google’s #1 when I had zero “experience” or “authority.”

The bottom line: focus on helpful content, with a sprinkle of keywords in the right places and you'll rank better.

How much will you earn as a content writer?

Let’s not pretend as though passion is the only reason we chose this career. The financial aspect is a huge motivation, and that’s perfectly okay.

Don’t be ashamed to admit it—you chose a path that pays, and that’s fine.

So, onto the money part:

👉 Entry-level writers (less than 1 year experience) earn around ₦70,000 – ₦100,000 monthly.

Now, that doesn’t mean it’s all your take-home. If you work onsite, transport and other expenses will slash it down.

I know you might feel that’s “low pay.” But look around—Nigeria’s minimum wage is ₦70,000 (just revised recently), and many workers don’t even earn up to that.

Some people still take home around ₦40,000 after deductions—and unlike you, they don’t have the option of working remote.

Now here’s the sweet part:

In content writing, there’s room for fast growth. With the right skills, you can move from ₦100k to ₦500k+ within months.

And if you stay consistent, patience + dedication = millions over time.

It’s Wednesday.

That point in the week when your energy feels like it’s running low.

But let me remind you: progress is not always loud. Sometimes it’s just showing up, typing one line, or editing one paragraph.

Don’t look at how far you still have to go, look at how far you’ve already come.

So, breathe. Write something small today. That little step is proof—you’re moving.

Keep going.
