The Oyo State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Task Force has arrested nine individuals for engaging in illegal waste disposal at unauthorized locations across the state.

The offenders were apprehended during a routine environmental monitoring exercise conducted by the Ministry’s enforcement team aimed at curbing the menace of indiscriminate refuse dumping and promoting a cleaner environment throughout Oyo State.

They were subsequently arraigned before the Environmental Court, presided over by Justice Abimbola, where they were charged for violating Oyo State’s environmental sanitation laws.

The Oyo State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Task Force has arrested four additional individuals for the illegal dumping of refuse on road medians within the Ibadan metropolis.

This latest arrest comes shortly after five other offenders were apprehended for similar offences earlier in the week, bringing the total number of offenders to nine in just a few days.

According to the Ministry, the operation is part of ongoing efforts to ensure environmental sanity and total compliance with the state’s waste management regulations. The Task Force emphasised that illegal dumping of refuse not only defaces the city but also poses serious health and environmental risks.

In a bid to ease the burden on parents and promote education as the foundation of community development, Hon. Akinjide Kazeem Akinola, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and House of Representatives hopeful for Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency, has rolled out a N12.5 million Back-to-School Support Initiative through the AKA Foundation.

The gesture comes at a critical time when many families are struggling with the nation’s economic realities, making it difficult to provide essential school materials and fees for their children. N50,000 will be given to each of the 250 parents/beneficiaries of the initiative.

My deepest and most sincere gratitude goes to the entire leadership and membership of the Oyo State All Progressives Congress, ably led by Alhaji (Pharm) Olayide Abass; the Ibadan North Local Government Chapter of our great party under the leadership of Alh Taofik Olayiwola; and the Bye-Election Campaign Council and its various committees, under the leadership of Rt Hon. The Oyo State Government has reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on indiscriminate waste disposal and other environmental violations, warning offenders to face stiff penalties, including hefty fines and possible jail terms.

Speaking through the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, the government urged residents to dispose of waste only through accredited waste managers and to follow designated collection schedules strictly. Punishment for Offenders

The APC Unity Frontiers, a group within the Oyo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, has stated that the outcome of Saturday’s Ibadan North by-election could be replicated in the 2027 gubernatorial elections if the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu gets the party gubernatorial ticket.

The group made this assertion in a statement signed by its Chairman, Alhaji Akindele Olatubosun and Secretary, Mr Taiwo Adeniyi on Sunday while reacting to the Ibadan North Bye-election result.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has affirmed Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, popularly known as ‘DON’ of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the winner of the Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has portrayed its anti-people policy against its loyal party members in Oyo State who are committed to party success but were treated as pawns by the same party that they have dedicated their lives to.

In a video recently circulated online, the party members were protesting what they alleged was bad welfarism, injustice and deception by the leadership of the party.

As we all know, the palliative had been kept at home for more than two years. We wonder why the governor decided to share it now. At least if they will do such, the rice especially should be subjected to screening to confirm eatability.
