Sometimes, before I continue teaching, I pause to gist my students because I can tell when they are tired or mentally exhausted. I crack jokes, tell them random stories, make them laugh a little, and suddenly the whole class becomes alive again. Teaching is not always about rushing through notes and lessons. Sometimes, students learn better when you first make them smile and feel relaxed.

Today is Children’s Day, but for some families in the Ogbomoso area of Oyo State, there is no celebration. There is only fear, silence, pain, and endless prayers.

Some pupils who should be celebrating with their parents are nowhere to be found. Some teachers who dedicated their lives to educating children are also missing. Families do not know where their loved ones are or the condition they are in, and that pain is heartbreaking.

As a teacher, this situation weighs heavily on my heart because schools should be places of learning, safety, and hope, not fear and uncertainty. No parent should have to wonder if their child will return home from school. No teacher should have to live in fear while trying to educate the next generation.

Today, I pray for the safe release of every abducted pupil and teacher in the Ogbomoso area of Oyo State. May they return home safely, alive, and in good condition.

have learned that silence does not always protect dreams. Sometimes, the life you want only begins when you decide to be seen. Opportunities rarely knock on hidden doors. That is why I am choosing to show up, speak up, create, and put my face online every single time until the right opportunities find me. I refuse to shrink myself because of fear or opinions. I will stay visible, intentional, and consistent until my life changes.

For the longest time, someone’s words lived in my head rent free.
Every time I wanted to show up online, create content, speak, or simply be myself, I kept hearing the voices that said I was not good enough, not qualified enough, or too much.

But one day, I realized that staying silent was slowly burying the version of me the world needed to see.
So I broke the chain.
I stopped waiting for permission to exist loudly online.
Now I show up scared sometimes, imperfect sometimes, but free.

During PTA meetings, parents should not only discuss children’s performance. Teacher welfare should also be part of the conversation. A stressed, poorly treated, and exhausted teacher cannot give their best in the classroom. What schools pour into teachers will always reflect in what teachers pour into students. Better treatment for teachers means better learning for children.

They say teachers should stay inside the classroom and keep quiet online, as if our lives end when the bell rings. But teaching is not the only thing we carry. We carry stories, struggles, dreams, and a whole human life that deserves to be seen. Beyond the classroom, we are people too, learning, growing, and building a life we can actually enjoy while we are still living it.

Many schools have beautiful buildings, painted walls, smart classrooms, and attractive environments. But behind those fine structures, many classrooms are empty because teachers are tired of toxic treatment, disrespect, pressure, poor welfare, and constant emotional stress.

A school cannot truly grow when the people carrying the vision are constantly drained. Good teachers do not always leave because they hate teaching. Sometimes, they leave because the environment slowly breaks them.

Beautiful structures may attract people, but a healthy environment is what makes teachers stay.

For years, many of us were raised to survive, obey, and repeat the same cycle without ever asking ourselves what we truly wanted from life. We moved on autopilot. Wake up, struggle, endure, repeat.

It took me 30 years to finally break out of that pattern and start living intentionally. To stop hiding. To stop shrinking. To start choosing growth, visibility, purpose, and direction for myself.

That journey changed my life, and I poured those lessons into my book, From Invisible to Intentional. If you are ready to stop drifting through life and start becoming deliberate about your future, click the link in my bio and get your copy today.

Contrary to popular opinion, government school teachers are not lazy. Many of us show up every single day with passion, strength, and the desire to give our learners the very best. Personally, I will always give my all to my students because their future matters to me.

My heart is with every teacher, learner, and family going through this painful moment in Ogbomoso. No one should leave home in search of education and safety only to disappear into fear and uncertainty. I pray for strength for the families, protection for the victims, and their safe return home very soon. May this darkness end in joy and relief.
