Afagase Visits Imoga Community, Condoles with Family of Slain Farmer, Urges Calm

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the House of Representatives, Mr. Paul Afagase Johnson, on Sunday paid an unscheduled condolence visit to Imoga Community in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area following the brutal killing of a young farmer allegedly by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

Afagase's first stop was the palace of the Okpahi of Imoga, where he sympathized with the traditional ruler over the tragic loss of one of his subjects. At the palace, he met with a large gathering of youths, women and elders who had assembled to receive updates from the monarch on the unfortunate incident.

Addressing the crowd, Afagase expressed deep sorrow over the killing, describing it as a painful loss not only to the bereaved family but also to the entire Imoga Community. He urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding and united during this difficult period.

The ADC House of Representatives candidate called on the people to respect constituted authority and have confidence in the government's efforts to ensure that those responsible for the crime are apprehended and brought to justice. He cautioned against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that security agencies should be allowed to carry out their constitutional responsibilities without interference.

He also commended the traditional ruler for his leadership and for working to maintain peace and order within the community despite the prevailing tension.

After leaving the palace, Afagase proceeded to the residence of the deceased to personally condole with the bereaved family. He offered words of comfort to the aged grandmother of the slain young man, who was reportedly attacked while working on his farm.

He encouraged the family to remain strong in the face of the tragedy and appealed to them to cooperate fully with security agencies and relevant government authorities to facilitate a thorough investigation and ensure that the perpetrators of the heinous crime are brought to justice.

The visit was widely regarded as a demonstration of solidarity with the grieving community at a time of profound sorrow, as residents continue to call for improved security and greater protection for farmers and rural communities in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area.
