Subject: URGENT COMPLAINT ON THE DESTRUCTIVE ATTACK AND WANTON DESTRUCTION OF CROPS ON IDOMI FARMLANDS BY UGEP PEOPLE ON SUNDAY 16TH AUGUST, 2026
Your Excellency,
We, the people of Idomi Community in Yakurr Local Government Area, write with deep grief, outrage, and urgency to formally report a deliberate and premeditated attack on our farmlands carried out by people of Ugep on Sunday, 16th August, 2026.
The Incident
On Sunday, taking advantage of the fact that our people, in accordance with our custom and faith, do not go to farm on Sundays, a group of persons from Ugep invaded our farmlands. They systematically destroyed crops, uprooted economic trees, and caused massive havoc across several hectares of land belonging to Idomi farmers.
This act was not random. It was calculated, timed, and executed to inflict maximum damage and economic hardship on our people.
Breach of Government Directive
Your Excellency will recall that the Government of Cross River State has on several occasions issued an official statement and warning that ON NO ACCOUNT SHOULD EITHER IDOMI OR UGEP ENCROACH ON THE LAND OF THE OTHER. That directive was meant to guarantee peace and prevent further bloodshed between our communities.
The action of the Ugep people on 16th August is a direct act of defiance, contempt, and violation of that government order. Their continued impunity shows that they are adamant about the warning of the state government and are determined to provoke crisis.
Our Demands:
In view of the above, we hereby demand that:
1. The Government of Cross River State immediately takes its constitutional course to investigate this attack.
2. The perpetrators are identified, arrested, and brought to justice without delay or compromise.
3. Adequate security is deployed to Idomi farmlands to prevent further attacks.
4. Appropriate compensation is made to affected farmers for crops and property destroyed.
5. The Government reaffirms and enforces its earlier directive with stiffer consequences for any further violation.
Your Excellency, we are a peace-loving people. But peace cannot thrive where injustice is allowed to fester. If this act is ignored, it will embolden further aggression and may plunge both communities into avoidable conflict.
We trust that your government will act swiftly, firmly, and justly to restore order, uphold the rule of law, and protect the lives and livelihood of the people of Idomi.
