World Literacy Day 2025 📖

Every year on 8 September, the world comes together to mark world Literacy Day , a day set aside to highlight the importance of literacy as a human right, a foundation for learning, and a tool for building inclusive societies.

This year’s theme, “Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era,” reminds us that literacy goes beyond reading and writing on paper , it now includes the ability to access, understand, create, and communicate in a digital world.

At CAPRIGHTS-VP, we are committed to this vision through community-driven sensitization and advocacy on the right to education,an inherent right to be enjoyed by every child regardless of background, has access to quality education and is equipped to thrive in the digital age.

“The strength of a community is measured by how it protects its most vulnerable.”

Yesterday, on International Non-Profit Day, we were reminded of the indispensable role that civil society organizations (CSOs) play in building safer, fairer communities.

At the World Day Against Human Trafficking in Persons 2025, held at Ecowas Hall, Seme Border, CAPRIGHTS-VP, alongside other dedicated NGOs Devatop Centre for Africa Development, Kanem Care Foundation, African Movement of Working Children and Youth (MAEJT Nigeria), Emajo Africa Art Initiative, Timidi Ayamba Empowerment Foundation (TAEF), and Chetachi Foundation stood together to reaffirm our shared mission: ending human trafficking and exploitation.

After the event, we visited the Controller’s office, strengthening collaboration between state actors and CSOs. This reflects our unwavering belief that partnerships are key to dismantling trafficking networks, protecting survivors, and ensuring justice prevails.

On this Non-Profit Day, we celebrate the resilience, passion, and tireless efforts of NGOs who stand in the gap every day giving voice to the voiceless and hope to the hopeless.

At CAPRIGHTS-VP, we remain committed to protecting vulnerable children, youth, and women, ensuring survivors are not only rescued but also restored to dignity and empowered to reclaim their future.

What traditions do you think may be forgotten when children are sent to live with other family members?

On 9 August 1982, representatives of the world’s indigenous peoples gathered at the United Nations for the first time, determined to break centuries of silence. That historic moment gave birth to the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples,a day to honor resilience, protect heritage, and demand justice.

Today, CAPRIGHTS-VP reflects on how cultural heritage can be lost when vulnerable children, like many child domestic workers, are removed from their communities. We stand committed to protecting not just their rights and dignity, but also the traditions, languages, and values that root them in identity.

10 years of World Youth Skills Day , but who is still left behind?

Today, the world celebrates a decade of empowering young people with skills for the future especially through AI and digital innovation. But at CAPRIGHTS-VP, we are asking a crucial question:
How can a child who has been denied access to education develop digital skills?

For many vulnerable children especially child domestic workers, basic education remains a dream. These are the children cleaning, cooking, and caregiving when they should be learning, growing, and building skills for life. Until we close this gap, global conversations about skills and digital futures remain incomplete.

As we mark this 10th anniversary, we recommit to our work of protecting, educating, and empowering every child ,especially the ones no one sees. Because if education is the key to skills, then access must come first.

As we step into the second half of 2025, we remain committed, energized, and focused. Together with you,our community of changemakers ,we will keep raising awareness, breaking silence, and building safer spaces for women and children.

Let’s finish the year stronger, louder, and more united than ever.

The Role of Sensitization in Shaping Young Minds

At CAPRIGHTS-VP, we believe that sensitization is not just an activity,it is a powerful tool for transformation. When children are informed, they are empowered. And when they are empowered, they become protectors of their rights and advocates for others.

Guided by this belief, we visited Muslim Junior College, Egbe, where we engaged students in meaningful conversations around child rights, safety, and the hidden exploitation many child domestic workers endure.

These weren’t just passive listeners, these were young voices awakening. They asked thoughtful questions, shared reflections, and boldly expressed their commitment to protecting one another. It was a moment of hope. A reminder that the future is already rising in the hearts of our children.

At CAPRIGHTS-VP, we’re not just raising awareness,we’re building a movement. A movement where every child knows their worth, speaks their truth, and stands against injustice.

Stay tuned for more highlights from this impactful outreach. We are reclaiming the future, one child, one school, one community at a time.
