"Lost or not, the tale surrounding Igbo-Ọra FMC" prominent community leader, Hon. Yemi Akinlabi's update.

The proposed Federal Medical Centre (FMC) for Igboora has been lost due to the community's indolence, lack of unity, and weak relationships with the presidency. This devastating news has sent shockwaves throughout the community, leaving many wondering what could have been done differently.

According to Hon. Yemi Akinlabi, a community leader and former Chairman of Igboora Central Local Government, the FMC bill, was first introduced by Hon. Dr. Ajibola Muraina in the National Assembly during the 9th Assembly, with the support of Senators Teslim Folarin and Abdufatai Buhari. Despite passing the public hearing, the bill did not receive presidential assent.

Hon. Akinlabi stated, "The community has a history of initiating development projects, mobilizing funds, and advocating for their implementation with relevant government agencies. However, since 1992, the community has been reacting to events rather than taking proactive steps to drive development."

The community's lawmakers, including Hon. Dr. Anthony Adepoju and Senator Sharafadeen Alli reintroduced the bill in the current Assembly. Both lawmakers sponsored separate bills for the establishment of the FMC, garnering support from their colleagues and even reaching the public hearing stage. However, once again, the bill failed to receive presidential assent.

Hon. Akinlabi attributes the failure to secure the FMC to the community's inaction and lack of unity. "A community that fails to act proactively and instead chooses to merely react will never develop," he said. "We have been reactive rather than proactive, and it's costing us dearly."

The loss of the FMC is not an isolated incident. The community has been lackadaisical about other development projects too, including the current creation of Ibadan State or New Oyo State, local government creation, and re-electrification of some of the major local government areas.

"We are doing far below our forefathers," Hon. Akinlabi lamented. "These issues were insurmountable when our town was united under the Igboora Literary Progressive Union (ILPU) and later the Igboora Progress Union (IPU). It is time for us to buckle down and leave positive legacies for our children."

Hon. Akinlabi recalled that the community's forefathers were proactive in initiating development projects, including the establishment of the Ibarapa Central Local Government, which was a result of their efforts. He noted that the community's current leaders must emulate the example of their predecessors and take proactive steps to drive development.

The community leader and politician also summoned the community representation concerned in the National Assembly, to do more to secure development projects for the community.

As the community reflects on its failures, Hon. Akinlabi urges the people of Igbo-Ọra to come together and work towards a better future. We must learn from our mistakes and take proactive steps to ensure our community develops and prospers.

"Our 'Gadabu' Remembered 2 Years After: One of the saddest news life told us"— A. J.

An APC stalwart and political analyst, Comr. Adenekan Adeola Joshua has shared a heartfelt tribute to the late Hon. Razak Olatunde (Gadabu), a great community doyen and leader from Ibarapa and likewise a leader in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his lifetime. Two years have passed since his untimely demise, but his legacy continues to inspire many in the party.

In a poignant message, Joshua recalled the circumstances of Gadabu's passing, which occurred on November 5, 2023, a day that would have been a celebration of his life. "Nov. 5 on his birthday, same day before morning dawn, He died! I was preparing to write my wishes to celebrate him, but oh, he's dead, that same midnight," Joshua wrote.

The emotional tribute continued, "Anywhere I see what belongs to you, I am even very much ready to be an extremist, criminal, or manipulator to defend your legacy. You fought for me, I will so fight for your living consanguinity Sir." As Joshua reflected on the two-year milestone, he paid tribute to Gadabu's leadership and legacy, describing him as "Baba Mi, Leader mi Gadabu." Concluding his message, Joshua prayed, "May your soul continue to rest in peace."

The tribute was signed off with a sense of loss and admiration: "The Progressive son sheds tears today again for his late Progressive dad, Leader (Chief) Razak Olatunde, O'Gadabu!" The APC family in Ibarapa and beyond continues to cherish the memories of this great leader.
