NYSC BENU CAMPUS ABUZZ WITH CULTURAL CARNIVAL
The NYSC Benue Orientation Camp in Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area, was filled with vibrant colors, rhythms, and cultural displays as corps members celebrated their long-awaited Carnival Day on June 28, 2025.
The carnival featured 10 platoons, each showcasing a unique Nigerian culture. The performances included:
- Platoon 10: Igede people, known for their strong communal values and traditional dances.
- Platoon 9: Jukun people, highlighting their farming traditions and fishing heritage.
- Platoon 8: Tiv culture, with a vibrant display of their rich heritage.
- Platoon 7: Idoma traditions, featuring an engaging drama on village life and royal marriage rites.
- Platoon 6: Igbo culture, showcasing their rich cultural heritage.
- Platoon 5: Yoruba people, displaying their strength and vibrancy.
- Platoon 4: Gbagyi tribe, highlighting their traditions and customs.
- Platoon 3: Hausa and Fulani heritage, showcasing their rich cultural legacy.
- Platoon 2: Ancient Benin culture, featuring a stunning display of their traditions.
- Platoon 1: Ibibio people, wowing the crowd with their vibrant traditions.
The winners of the carnival were:
- *First Place:* Platoon 4 (Gbagyi tribe)
- *Second Place:* Platoon 9 (Jukun people)
- *Third Place:* Platoon 7 (Idoma traditions)
The NYSC Benue State Coordinator, Mrs. Garba Veronica, praised the corps members for their creativity, collaboration, and spirit of unity. She noted that the carnival had helped participants discover new talents, build stronger bonds, and deepen their appreciation for Nigeria's diverse cultures.
