William Shakespeare
Shakespeare was an actor, writer, and poet from England. He was born at Stratford-upon-Avon on April 26, 1564. His mother was the daughter of a landowner, and his father was a prosperous local businessman. Shakespeare is recognized as the greatest English-language author and the greatest playwright in history. He goes by the names Bard of Avon and is frequently referred to as England's national poet. About 38 plays, 154 sonnets, two lengthy narrative poems, and a few other verses, the authorship of which is unknown, were all written by him. His plays are produced more frequently than those of any other playwright since they have been translated into every significant living language.
