IJEBU IGBO STRENGTHENS SECURITY ARCHITECTURE AS NEW POLICE AREA COMMAND AND JAPARA POLICE STATION ARE COMMISSIONED
Ijebu Igbo recorded a landmark moment in its history with the official commissioning of the Ijebu Igbo Police Area Command and the Japara Police Station on Thursday,26th February, 2027, a development widely celebrated as a major boost to safety, law enforcement presence, and community protection across the town and neighbouring communities.
The new formations, under the authority of the Nigeria Police Force, are expected to significantly improve response time to emergencies, strengthen crime prevention efforts, and deepen collaboration between residents and security agencies.
The project was commissioned by the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, alongside the Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Chief Tokunbo Talabi, the Chairman of Ijebu North Local Government, Hon. Bolaji Odusanya, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command,CP Lanre Ogunlowo, the Ijebu Igbo Area Commander, ACP Bukoye Oyegbemi, and His Royal Majesty, Alayeluwa Oba Lawrence Jaiyeoba Adebajo, Ojuromi VI, the Orimolusi of Ijebu Igbo.
Also in attendance were members of the Ijebu Igbo Council of Obas and the Ijebu North Council of Obas, alongside an array of eminent elders and respected community leaders whose presence reflected the unity and collective commitment of the people of Ijebu Igbo toward strengthening local security.
Notable personalities present included Prof. Ayo Ogunye, Arc. Adeyemi Kukoyi, Asiwaju (Sen.) Lekan Ramoni Mustapha, Balogun (Dr.) Tunde Ipaye,AIG Kunle Ashafa(Rtd.) Otunba Jide Seun Fowode, Iyalaje Eunice Bamiro, Oluomo Abiodun Olawale Lawal Abinugbola, Giwa Sunday Osifeso, Mr. Adekoya Taiwo Tijani (Jaguar), Sir Michael Ilori as well as other distinguished sons and daughters of the soil, whose attendance underscored the importance and historic significance of the occasion.
Community leaders, traditional rulers, stakeholders, and residents gathered in large numbers to witness the ceremony, describing the project as long overdue and critical to the growing population and expanding commercial activities of Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State.
Following the commissioning of the Area Command, the delegation proceeded to Japara for the unveiling of the Japara Police Station, initiated by His Royal Highness Adewale Aderemi Ogunye and built through the collective efforts of the Japara community and generous donors; a testament to grassroots commitment to security and development.
A NEW ERA OF LOCAL POLICING
The newly established Area Command will oversee security coordination across the Ijebu North Local Government axis, ensuring better supervision of divisional stations and faster deployment of personnel and resources.
Meanwhile, the Japara Police Station brings law enforcement closer to residents within Japara and adjoining neighbourhoods, making access to police services easier, faster, and more efficient.
Stakeholders noted that the facilities will enhance rapid response to crime and emergencies, improve intelligence gathering and community policing, reduce pressure on existing stations and promote peace, order, and investor confidence
COMMUNITY APPRECIATION
Speakers at the event expressed gratitude to the police authorities, government representatives, and local advocates whose persistent efforts made the project possible. Many described the commissioning as a testament to what collaboration between government and community leadership can achieve.
Residents believe the development will not only deter criminal activity but also encourage business growth, youth engagement, and overall socio-economic stability.
LOOKING AHEAD
With the new Area Command and Japara Police Station now operational, Ijebu Igbo steps into a new phase of strengthened security and structured policing, a move widely seen as laying the foundation for a safer, more prosperous future for all.
