COURT NULLIFIES JIMI LAWAL’s RERUN PRIMARY IN OGUN

The Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta on Friday, 25th November, 2022 has declared the purported Governorship re- run Primary election organized by dissident members of the Peoples Democratic party led by Mr. Jimi Adebisi Lawal to be illegal, unconstitutional and void.

The suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu with number FHC/AB/CS/220/2022 against Mr. Jimi Adebisi Lawal and others came after Mr Jimi Lawal organized a fake rerun primary on 17th October in clear disobedience to the party’s guidelines and provision of the 2022 electoral act.

In the judgment delivered by Hon. Justice Akintayo Aluko, all the three questions formulated in the Plaintiffs' Originating Summons were resolved in favour of the PDP and Hon. Adebutu.

The court declared that
the purported Gubernatorial rerun Primary Election of the PDP in Ogun State purportedly conducted on the 17th October, 2022 was not conducted in compliance with the orders made by the Federal High Court, Abeokuta Division in Suit No: FHC/AB/CS/83/2022 between Prince Adesegun Seriki and Ors v INEC and Ors and Suit No: FHC/AB/CS/87/2022 between Taiwo Olabode Idris and Ors v PDP and Ors both of which were delivered on the 27th day of September, 2022.

The court further declared that the Independent National Electoral Commission cannot validly accept the name of Mr. Jimi Lawal as the candidate of the PDP as the purported re- run Governorship Primary Election is illegal, unconstitutional and void.

You will recall that Jimi Lawal had approached the Federal High Court in Abeokuta with application for a writ of Mandamus for the purpose of compelling INEC to accept the result of the fake rerun primary in suit No: FHC/AB/CS/222/2022 filed by Taiwo Olabode Idris and others (Jimi LAWAL’s cohorts) against Independent National Electoral Commission which was struck out by the court on 3rd November, 2022.

Court Judgements: Adebutu Sues for Calm, Certain of Victory

Following the judgements of the Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta on Tuesday 27th September, 2022 which nullified the primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, the PDP Gubernatorial Candidate, Hon. (Dr) Oladipupo Adebutu, has called on members of the Party and the general public to remain calm as there is no cause for panic.

Hon. Adebutu noted that while the Party awaits the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgements, its legal team will review the court verdict and necessary actions shall be communicated to the public in earnest.

However, it is important to note that a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had earlier on Friday 29th July, 2022 ruled in favour of the primaries that produced Hon. Adebutu as the PDP governorship candidate in Ogun State, validating the process and delegates that participated in the primary election. The process of the primaries was in line with all provisions of the new Electoral Act as well as INEC and PDP Guidelines.

In addition, today's judgements were in sharp contrast to the 2019 judgement. In fact, the pronouncements did not vitiate nor disregard the PDP State Executive led by Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele which conducted the primaries that led to the emergence of Hon. Adebutu and other candidates that were confirmed authentic and recognised by the Court as well as the national leadership of the Party. Therefore, our teeming supporters, Party faithful and the good people of Ogun State need not to entertain any fear.

Meanwhile, we wish to notify our members that the scheduled campaign activities for the 2023 National Assembly elections shall commence as scheduled with a rally at the Ogun PDP State Secretariat in Abeokuta in accordance with the INEC timetable.

We want to state clearly that Ogun PDP is one indivisible family which is only experiencing normal issues in formidable political parties. Although the latest court judgements are temporal, the PDP in Ogun State shall come out stronger, better and brighter.

Our resolve to rescue Ogun State from the shackles of maladministration and poverty brought about by the ruling APC is unshakable and we are certain of victory in the 2023 elections.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains the party to beat and it is determined to chase the inept and wicked APC out of government in the forthcoming polls.

The leaders and members of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Ijebu Igbo Constituency, Ijebu North Local Government on Friday 16th September, 2022 held its Constituency meeting to showcase the new Decampees from different parties such as APC, ADC, APM, Omo Ilu Group and hosts of others at the Party Secretariat, Oke Padre, Ijebu Igbo.

The incoming Governor and PDP Gubernatorial Candidate, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu graciously graced the event with other Distinguished leaders of the party.

The event was massively attended by the party members. Hon. Kehinde Bello, House of Representatives Candidate; Engr. Mobolaji Kuye, the House of Assembly Candidate in Ijebu North Constituency II and few others were in attendance.

*ADC collapses Structure for PDP in Ogun*

As the thirst for good, accountable and profitable governance continues to gain momentum across various political parties in Ogun State, all Executive members Of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from Ogun west on Tuesday, 2nd August, 2022 collapsed their structure into the Peoples Democratic party.

The Executive members who were welcomed into PDP by the party’s Gubernatorial Candidate in the state, Honourable Oladipupo Adebutu pledged their unwavering loyalty and support for the PDP.

According to the decampees led by Prince Lanre Adu Asungbalaja, the move became a matter of urgency after a proper study of Honourable Oladipupo Adebutu has been done and the result presented him as a Leader characterized by Honesty, diligence, And Someone who bears the pain of the gateway state in his heart, hence the reason for their support.

The new members into PDP include, Princess Bukola Idiat Akinbo, Bar. Oluyemisi Aderonke Omotayo, Honourable Augustine Agbabo, Edun Sunday, Chief Lukalu Jackson Adesola, Sultan Balogun W.A, and Alhaji Falade Ibrahim amidst others.
