Gov Abiodun Welcomes Former PDP Chairman, Deputy Governorship Candidate, Others Into APC

Former governorship candidate of the Allied People's Movement (APM), who is also a deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Hon. Adekunle Akinlade, on Wednesday, defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Former chairman of the PDP in the state, Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele, a member representing Abeokuta South State Constituency 1 on the platform of the opposition party, Hon. Luqmon Atobatele, a former member of the House of Assembly, Hon. Idowu Olowofuja, a former chairman of the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Rotimi Rahaman; Dr. Mojeed Ekelojumati and thousands of their supporters also defected.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, while welcoming the defectors, assured them that they have been fully accepted back into the fold of the party.

"I want to assure you that we will accord you the rights, privileges, and respect that indeed you deserve," he said.

Governor Abiodun also described the PDP as an empty shell, as it has been experiencing gales of defection nationwide, noting that he was happy that Hon. Akinlade and others had left the sinking ship to join the progressive team of the APC.

The governor urged members of the APC from the 236 wards and the state working committee to accept and collaborate with the new members.

"Today, our brothers have come back home, and we are happy and rejoicing in it. We are happy to receive them back into the fold.

"The chairman of the party, a former House of Representatives member, former governorship candidate who came second in an election where I contested, former deputy governorship candidate, a serving member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Deputy Minority Leader, a former council chairman, former commissioner, former ALGON chairman—the list is endless. We are all here today happily receiving them.

"Hon. Akinlade said something: he said they didn't just come here to declare today; they have gone to their various wards, they declared at their respective wards, they have joined from bottom-up, not from top-down because they are seasoned politicians," he said.

In his remarks, Hon. Akinlade noted that they are fully back into the fold of the party to contribute their quota towards the development of the state and the country.

Akinlade added that their movement has not left anyone behind on their way to join the progressives in the state, acknowledging Governor Abiodun for accepting them and for also treating them with dignity.

"All I can say is to thank our leader, our amiable governor. What I have seen in the last couple of months is the dignity with which he received us; it takes only great men to be gracious in victory.

"Today, we are not decamping; this is a movement. We have moved en masse back home; we have left nobody behind because we believe in the leadership of our governor and the leadership of our party, both at the state and national levels.

"We are here to support you, Your Excellency. We are here to support the party; we are here to commit our loyalty to you and the party. We are here to work with you, Your Excellency," he said.

Also, Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele noted that their coming will bring positive results to the ruling party in the state.

The former state PDP chairman added that they have thought through their decision to join the APC after seeing the great works of Governor Abiodun in the state and that of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the country.

"We, the responsible members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied People's Movement (APM), are progressively moving en masse into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

"What we are doing here today is a testimony; it is also history. I want to re-echo it: the most responsible PDP members of Ogun State from the 236 wards have moved en masse," he said.

Hon. Luqmon Atobatele commended Governor Abiodun for his leadership style, which he said recognizes everyone as a team.

"If you don't know Governor Dapo Abiodun very well, try and get to know him; as an Honourable member, what he has done for each member, no governor has ever done that before in the history of the state.

"Presently, I have done 88 surgeries free of charge for our people in my constituency.

"Around February, 40 medical doctors came from the United States of America. I wrote just a letter to Governor Dapo Abiodun; he gave me 40 rooms in a hotel, he provided vehicles and security.

"He is one of a kind who will do such for an Honourable member from another party; he has done very well for us in the Ogun State House of Assembly," he said.

Multi-Million Dollar Food Company Set to Berth in Ogun

A Qatari-based dairy industry, Baladna, is set to establish a multi-million dollar food factory in Ogun State.

Baladna is an agricultural company that raises livestock and produces dairy products. It is Qatar's largest locally-owned food and dairy producer that supplies over 95 percent of the country's fresh dairy products.

The Head of Products and Solutions Architecture at Baladna, Mr. Aidan Thomas Iynan, disclosed this when he and other members of the company, led by the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Aisha Rimi, paid a courtesy visit to the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

He said the government of Qatar and the company invested heavily in an integrated dairy farm, which has become the biggest single dairy farm in the world.

He stated that Nigeria and Ogun State, like Algeria, would achieve remarkable results in dairy farming with the expertise, technology, and capital from the organization.

He noted that the collaboration with the Algerian government is expected to produce 1.7 billion liters of milk a year and meet 50 percent of milk supply for Algerians.

Mr. Iynan noted that with the current climate change, seven decades of drought in Syria, and flash floods in North America, the Mediterranean, and North Africa, it was imperative for Nigeria to work towards becoming self-sufficient in dairy production, as the situation is bound to put pressure on countries that depend on imports to address their food security.

"We can build farms that are highly efficient with world-class yields, and we can address not just dairy, meat, but also crop production," he said.

He added the purpose of the visit was to explore possibilities in the country regarding land acquisition and also to hold talks with the government of Ogun State on collaboration in order to develop plans and feasibility studies to push the plan through.

Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of NIPC, Aisha Rimi, said that despite Nigeria's enormous potential in terms of population and increased urbanization, there is still low production of milk, which is below global standards.

According to her, despite Nigeria having one of the largest cattle populations on the continent, it can only meet about 50 percent of its dairy needs, as it imports between $1.3 billion to $1.5 billion worth of dairy products annually.

The Executive Secretary emphasized that the government has introduced the National Dairy Policy, as well as the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development and the expansion of the National Livestock Transformation Plan, designed to improve local milk production and encourage the cultivation and processing of dairy products in the country.

In his response, Governor Abiodun observed that Nigeria's demand for milk has jumped to 1.6 billion liters per year, with about 50-70 percent coming from imports.

"A lot of people have been running around pretending to set up dairy farms. They applied for import substitute permits, but what we have seen today is that all they do is bring in powdered milk because powdered milk has been very profitable, and that is very unfortunate.

"I think that you represent the kind of company that we would like to work with, and we are confident that you will work with Nigeria to achieve the Renewed Hope Initiative in agriculture. If within one month you were able to achieve 35 percent of milk supply in Qatar and within six months you became self-sufficient, I have no doubt that you can achieve that here in Nigeria. Your operations here will be like a walk in the park since we do not have deserts here," the governor stated.

The governor highlighted the multiplying effects of having the company established in the state, noting that apart from job creation and individual prosperity, it would also lead to an increase in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the nation.

While calling on the company to consider establishing itself in the state, Prince Abiodun noted that the company's vision aligned with that of the state, assuring of seamless cooperation devoid of official bottlenecks.

Ogun Kicks Off Akute-Lambe-Agbado Road Reconstruction Project

Succor is on the way for motorists plying the Akute-Lambe-Agbado road in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State as the contracting firm, Craneburg, has moved to the site to begin the reconstruction of the ever-busy road.

Soon, the people of the area will join millions of other residents of Ogun State in driving on motorable roads as part of the effort of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration to make life easier for the populace through sustained infrastructure development across the state.

Craneburg has commenced the mobilization of heavy-duty equipment to the site. The ex*****on of earthworks has also started across multiple sections of the road, and construction work proper is expected to begin immediately.

The strategic project, which will benefit several communities in the area, covers critical stretches and landmarks, including Akute Bridge, Oke Aro Stream, and Agbado Bridge, among others. When concluded, it will serve as a vital link between several densely populated communities in Ifo Local Government Area of the state.

Eyewitness reports from the site of the project revealed that road grading and leveling works are actively ongoing, while the roadbed is being shaped with SEM 920F Motor Graders and bulldozers.
Construction of drains and laybys is expected to commence soon.

"Excavators and dump trucks are moving in to deposit lateritic soil as part of the base preparation, with clear evidence of material layering to ensure durability," an eyewitness added.

This road project is part of a broader effort by the Ogun State government to enhance infrastructure, improve transportation, and stimulate economic growth in the area. The project is also aimed at addressing long-standing infrastructure challenges and improving the overall quality of life for residents of Ifo Local Government Area and its environs.

Several road projects have been carried out in the area by the Dapo Abiodun-led administration, focusing on improved connectivity. These include the Akute-Ajuwon road in Ifo II State Constituency, Alagbole-Akute road, Akute-Ijoko-Oke Aro road, Sango-Ijoko-Akute road, and Denro-Ishashi-Oluwakemi road.
