MOVE FROM AN INHERITED RELIGION TO A LIVING RELATIONSHIP.
There is a vast difference between inheriting a religion and inhabiting a relationship.
Many of us grew up in homes where Christianity was simply the family default. We went to church because our parents went. We sang the songs because we knew the lyrics. We adopted the morals because they were the rules of the house. We became "Christians" by birthright and proximity, not by personal conviction.
But an inherited religion is fragile. It relies on a specific environment, a familiar routine, and the spiritual strength of others to survive. The moment you leave your comfort zone—relocating to a new city, facing a different culture, or walking through a personal crisis—an inherited religion begins to fail you. Why? Because you cannot survive on a borrowed faith.
The Power of a Living Relationship
Jesus didn’t die on the cross to give us a weekly routine or a cultural identity. He died to tear the veil and invite us into a living relationship with the Living God.
Religion asks, "What are the rules of this local church?" * Relationship asks, "What is the Holy Spirit saying to my heart today?"
Religion gets uncomfortable when the environment changes or when things aren't done "the way they used to be back home."
Relationship thrives anywhere, because the God you serve isn't bound by a location, a language, or a specific building.
When you shift from religion to relationship, your worship is no longer on autopilot. It flows naturally, without struggle, because you know the Person you are singing to. You don't serve God out of habit; you serve Him out of love.
Breaking Free from the Routine
If you find that your faith stumbles the moment your surroundings change, it is time to check your roots. Don't settle for being a Christian just because you were born into it.
Step out of the shadow of your background and encounter Jesus for yourself. Read the Word privately. Talk to Him personally. Let your faith become yours, deeply rooted and unshakeable. It’s time to stop practicing a tradition and start living the relationship.
