🎓 NELFUND DEBUNKS CLAIMS OF BIAS IN STUDENT LOAN SCHEME

The Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Akintunde Sawyerr, has dismissed claims that the student loan scheme is politically, ethnically or religiously biased.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Sawyerr described the allegation as “completely ridiculous,” noting that the loan application process is electronic and requires basic details such as a student’s name and matriculation number.

He explained that the system does not identify or consider applicants’ political, ethnic, religious or gender affiliations.

According to Sawyerr, the scheme is designed to support eligible Nigerian students in public tertiary institutions who meet the required criteria.

NELFUND also recently described as fake news a circulating claim that President Bola Tinubu had announced life imprisonment for students who fail to repay their education loans after graduation.

The Fund currently provides interest-free loans to eligible students to cover institutional fees and monthly upkeep allowances.

As Vice President Kashim Shettima turns 60, he has appealed to Nigerians, friends, supporters and associates not to spend money on gifts or birthday celebrations for him.

Instead, Shettima urged those who wish to celebrate with him to channel their resources towards charities, meaningful causes and people in need across Nigeria.

Sharing the message on Tuesday night, the Vice President said he remains deeply humbled by the prayers, goodwill and affection he has received over the years, but wants his 60th birthday to be marked by acts of kindness rather than expensive gifts.

👏 A birthday message with a strong lesson in generosity and service.
